1. My dad and my best friend think that it sits lower than it has in the past. I'm totally confused
2. (not sure this has anything to do with 1.)My Dad drove my car when I wasn't there and he said that he thinks I need new motor mounts. He spun through first so I was thinking he experienced FWD wheelhop which he might not be used to(He's had RWD for the past 25 yrs.)I don't know if he has any idea what he is talking about but is there any way for me to tell if I do need them? How hard of install? How much $$$???

you should be able to feel the motor rocking more than usual. drive around in first gear. give it some gas then let of the pedal quickly. you should be able to feel it or at least hear it clunk. that was my experiance with a broken fwd motormount. as far as it sitting lower, i've never heard of that.

Start the car, apply the emergency brake nice and tight. Open the hood and have your buddy or your father stand and watch the engine.
Put the car in 1st gear and release the clutch a bit so it grabs slightly. Let the emergency brake hold you back. Your engine should pretty much stay in place. Repeat this procedure while your car is in Reverse. Again, your engine should pretty much stay planted.
If a motor mount is broken, the engine will tilt up. Believe me, you'll see if the mounts are broken. Some movement is normal, but a broken mount will cause the engine to pick up out of the cradel pretty good.

When the mounts go bad, it's usually just the result of the rubber wearing out. The right and left mounts (near bumper and firewall respectively) have the least amount of play in them and the largest amount of rubber. The other two sit at the front and rear of the engine (passenger/driver side). These are where I noticed brittle rubber and some tearing. My guess, if there was a lot of wheel hop and you have enough time/miles on the car, is that the mount by the tranny/motor is the one that is giving you trouble.
As for sitting lower - yes, it's possible but not to the extent that you would notice it. Now, if a mount were unbolted or loose, then yes, you'd certainly be able to tell.
