Dragging calipers?

Hey everyone,

If I jack up the wheel and turn it by hand and feel some resistance from the brake pads (some scraping), does this means that the caliper is stuck and not releasing? What constitute a dragging/stuck caliper? Is the piston supposed to be fully off the pad once you let go of the brake pedal, or does it eventually forced off the pad with the wheels rotating?

If the caliper is dragging/stuck? How do you rebuild it, or is it just easier to get a remanufactured one?

Thanks

thanpto

You will hear and feel a very slight drag. It's normal.

If the wheel is very hard to rotate, then you might have a problem.

Turning the front wheels also spins the axel and differential in your transmission. They will drag much more then the rear wheels will.
