new max owner (vancouver)

hey all,
i just got a 96 black SE 5spd and am stoked to get going on it. its in the shop right now getting painted the 2001 maxima grey luster colour, and im getting my H&R sptrings put in also. how do you think the colour will look? how are the H&R springs for the maxima? (might be too late). what are the other essential upgrades? (keeping cost in mind). i REALLY, REALLY wanna get the half red tails, but i was told at the shop i went to that there is like a 2 month backorder at APC right now for them. is there anywhere else i can get them for a decent price? are there any other people with similar cars in the lower mainland of BC (canada) or in seattle? also, i wanted to cut my shifter down like an inch. any suggestions?

Welcome to this site! I'm in Vancouver as well. I drive an auto '98 Black Maxima SE with the Stillen V2 supercharger and Konis sports and the Eibach Pro Kit springs. The Stillen body kit is my next upgrade to the car.
The H&R will get rid of the 4x4 wheel well look and I've heard that the springs will give you a close to stock ride. Are you still using the stock shocks? How many clicks are on the odometer? Mopac sells the APC tail lights but I've seen them have ones for Hondas mostly. You may have to order them in as you said. Anyways most of the speed stuff is made in the states so the need for speed will be expensive.
The next thing you should think about is adjusting the breathing...like a cold air intake.

Welcome!!!!! Get a y-pipe! Intake......cat-back........and half clear/red tails..well.......I could ge the 'clear' tails for $150 and you could paint em or have someone else do em....

yeah i still have the shock struts, we'll see how it goes. im more concerned about appearance than performance (for now). i have about 88 km on my car. i'll try mopac for the tails, otherwise im waiting for up to 2 months for Lowriders in Surrey. do you know anyone out here who would paint a set of clear tails half red for me?

Sorry, I don't know of anyone up here in this neck of the woods that handles taillight painting. As for David7 I don't know where he is located but you can put up a new posting for that.
I tried ordering a Vibrant front strut tower bar from Overseas Auto on Main St. in Vancouver last July and after 2 months it still didn't show up. I wound up ordering it from Courtesy Nissan in Texas instead and got it in a week! I'd suggest doing direct ordering by internet rather than rely on the local shops. JCWhitney advertised Maxima tail lights from APC a month or so ago in SportsCompactCar Magazine. Addy is http://www.jcwsportcompact.com. Take a look there.
As for the looks dept. I'd rather have the "go" before the "show". Until I get the body kit I'm just in stealth mode right now. I rewired my corner lights with the instructions from Cheston's website at http://www.maximadriver.com and now they run alot brighter (I think Cheston's site is a prerequisite to any kind of modding!). Kinda almost like little fog lights that are aimed sideways! Now I can see the sidewalk more clearly while parked and light up the lanes on either side of me when I'm driving.

I know of another fellow in Coquitlam, Josh, that frequents this board too! It'll be nice to get together and see each others rides. Have you done anything to your Max? Having a GXE is a great starting point for modifying. I work in South Van by the airport. We should make a date and time to meet.

I was on the road tonight and saw a '96 Black Max with Momo Arrows and a Greddy exhaust going over the Cambie St. Bridge I caught up to him and he stomped it and took off on me. Caught up at the red light but he didn't look over at me....Wondering who he is and if he frequents this board? Hmmm?
