hi .I have currently a 98se auto I have a ractive intake and a universal muffler that is a straight through design it sounds good, throaty and agrressive, and too over the top. but I want to get a y-pipe and I want too know how much more typically is the noise level increased when a budget y-pipe is installed? the max is somewhat of a daily driver so my 5 year old is with us I dont want him wearing hearing aids next year but at the same time I want more horse to satisfy me when hes not in the car.......

i dont know whith that muffler, but i have stock muffler, a place racing cai set up as a hai and the y-pip is barely noticable. at wot the intake is much louder. at idle the y gives a nice low gurgle at wot you hear a hissing like air rushing under your *** real fast. but like i said with the intake i can barely hear the y pipe.
most people will have no idea that you have a y pipe if you have a stock muffler.
good luck

if its a "can" style muffler you have, it will probably sound like a$$, simply because there isnt much sound muting material in those style mufflers...

I didn't notice any change in tone after installing my Y-pipe with Tsudo muffler. The best way to describe the sound is like a 3000gt. The Y-pipe only emphasized that slightly. No cats and a B-pipe is probably the sound you hear on ricers cars and thatsprobably what your worried sounding like. A y pipe doesn't do that and it gives big gains get it you won't regret it!!!
If your universal muffler happens to be from Vibrant you'll get an annoying drone from 2500 rpm upwards during cruising. Even louder when accelerating.
thanx for the reponses the muffler I have now is fron naxos (?) and the car from my point of view sounds low and throaty and with the intake growly..... no mid to high pitch bees in a can drony but nice and thats the way I want to keep it.... but with more power. thanxxx!
