People with stillen intake?????
I was just wondering do you get that same noise from the stillen intake as you do the cai. I want the cai but not sure if I want to cut a whole in my car. Plus I was reading an article recently that said the stillen intake actually had more airflow than the cai and no the article was not written by stillen it was written by one of the persons on the discussion board. Anyways what do you think stillen or cai
From what I have read, the differences if any between the CAI and the STillen/JWT are minial (less than 1 hp) and they give higher HP figures at diff rpms. The CAI renders more power at low to mid rpms while JWT/Stillen gives better flow at higher rpms. I have the JWT intake and love it. I do notice a slight diff above 3ooo rpm and a nice growl if I step on it.
The Stillen (and JWT) growls, but the CAI makes more of a hollow sucking/growling noise. You have to hear it in person to really describe it. Me personally, I have a JWT, but that's only because I didn't want to cut a big hole in my car to fit in a CAI.
The Stillen probably does flow better, it has a lot less piping, but the CAI is pulling in more cold air. So the differences would be due to that (cold air vs. more flow)

my setup for my GLE
I have the Stillen intake and I love it. I love the growl it makes when I punch the gas. Plus I love it when old people roll down their window and ask if I have a V8. The best thing to do is buy like 4ft of flexible Vaccuum hose and put it where the SE fogs are and lead it right up to the intake. That way when your at speeds higher than 30mph u get cold air rushing through the pipe and into the bottom of the intake.
The Stillen intake is more of a growling noise while
the CAI is a higher pitch sound. I think this has to
do with the length of the tube for the CAI versus the
relatively close proximity of the Stillen filter.
Either way, your car will not sound stock! I kept
wondering if my car was actually running as quiet as
it was stock.
Anyway, as far as airflow, hp, etc., both intakes
are superior to the stock box. Both increase HP in
certain areas. Both are worthy modifications, but
I chose the Stillen over the CAI because it was the
"best looking" under the hood! It was also a little
easier to install than the CAI.

Stillen
I also went with the Stillen. It's a matter of principle and taste to cut a whole in your car to satisfy a mod that u actually have another option. In other words, if the only choice was the CAI...then by all means, let it rip, BUT since the stillen is available, thats should be the way to go.
Eventho, I actually preffered the DEEEEP growl from my V-TEC, but hey....those days are over.

that had to be clarified ...
Stllnmax,
I agree.....hey, do u have that Sterling Mist on the left?

The Stillen intake is just an oversized air filter that is a clone of the JWT Pop Charger --
The Stillen intake does not address the major restriction in the OEM resonator box and accordian piece in between the MAF and throttle body -- If you replace just those with the upper section of the CAI while still maintaining the stock air box, you get still much better flow -- especially a boost from about 2500 - 3500 RPMs -- at least that is my experience with it -- I have a JWT ECU and with that, there is a nice step up in torque that happens at 3500RPMs as compared to the stock ECU -- so this mod extended that range of torque band down several hundred RPMs...
I have yet to run the rest of the CAI intake -- but I like the K&N version of air filter just by looking at it -- the upstream diameter is about the same as the Stillen unit but the outlet side of the filter has a diameter only about 60% of that of the Stillen -- The CAI version air filter doesn't look like a big lamp shade like the Stillen ---
I think the Stillen intake is too big for its mounting location -- one side is jammed up against the battery and the whole bottom is jammed up against the top of the fender well -- I don't think the flow is really all that good through it where it is mounted --
I might try just putting the CAI air filter on where the Stillen/JWT intakes are normally mounted -- see how that works -- Since that filter is only 4.5" wide across its whole length --
Fact is, niether Stillen/JWT or Place Racing has a full dyno chart that they are actually willing to give to anyone which shows the response of their intake mods from idle all the way to redline -- They might spec a vague top end horsepower number but thats it --

Oh i forgot to mention that in the summer i will be working with some guys that make Heat shields in LI. but thats supposed to be a secret .... hopefully if it works out we may be able to get heatshields for our cars
