Honda 240 hp WHAT???

- 96 Maxima GXE automagic, custom ram air feeding a JWT filter and velocity stack, custom midpipe, WSP aluminized Y-pipe, Tsudo Muffler

Last night some one was shining down on me. Some of you may have read the thread where I beat my dads 03 automatic 3.5 Altima. Well after work I was truley blessed to run into a new accord V6 coupe.

I pull out from work to see a brand new black V6 accord coupe, I have to admit from the back it looks pretty good, I like the tailights and shiny dual exhaust. We pull up to a light and he looks over at me (I have blue headlights to let people know I like to play) and goes for his gear shifter to down shift. He looks at me again and I nod. Now we are both looking at the light and it goes green, it was a text book start we both left the line at the same time. He was right next to me until the top of first where I pulled the middle of my passeneger door to his front bumper, then all of a sudden his car gets a second wind and at the middle of second his front bumper comes right along side my front bumper I go into third and I have just a nose on him all the way to about 5,000 rpm before having to shut it down because the lane I was in was going to a highway.

At the next light he rolls his window down and says "what kind of car is that" I reply maxima. He asks (by the way his girl friend is in the passenger seat) how much horse power does it have. Now not wanting to lie I say "190." He drops his head and his girl friend starts (I kid you not) laughing. But then to make him feel better I say "but they have a ton of torque and your car didn't do to bad."

240 hp I guess only comes on at the last inkling of RPM.

I also raced a brand new grand prix last night with the funny looking exhaust. We went at the same time from 35 up to 65 with no one going anywhere.

I love this wolf in sheeps clothing!!!!!!!!

Now if I could just find a 5 speed or perhaps a little laughing gas.

Agree. My uncle was talking about how awesome the new accord was when reffering to my dads new altima, and how it would give it a run for it's money with 240 hp. I told him he forgot one important point, torque. That's why that 03 accord is not in the 14's yet.

Of course it would kind of break with Honda's tradition if they had a V6 with torque, they just rely to much on the overly hyped VTEC.

But I was impressed with my roomates 2000 Hype-R Integra, it was fast for a four cylinder and made a wonderful song when VTEC hit.

I watched an 03 Accord V6 auto with just an Injen cold air intake trapping 95-97mph consistently last time I was at the track...

So the CL-S' engine doesn't have any torque? It has 232 lb-ft@3500. IMO, that's plenty. It develops more torque than our cars, and at a lower RPM. And as for the Hype-R it's not just fast for a four cylinder, it's fast for any front-wheel drive car. Motor Trend tested it at 14.7 in the 1/4 mile and I'm sure others have run faster. Plenty of them running mid to low 13's N/A.

The Accord V6 engine is not known for its reliability though..... Lots of problems with that engine early in its life..... Its just not very well designed and engineered.....

I can admit myself from expericne that those accords are fast, even in auto form. I raced my sister in laws auto till about 120 or so, and i had about one car maybe a lil more by the end of the race (wasnt paying attention at 100+mph), they move, thats for sure...

The guy's girl friend was petite. As for the difference between my car and your car I can't say much other than 95-96 usually post better numbers, my car has 80,000 miles, it has been very well maintained through it's life, I have practiced the launch, and have a GXE so no heavy leather or fancy suspension. I have seen a 96 GXE auto post at this board that ran a high 14 (he ran this along with others who post here so they backed him up) with minor mods so other than that I could only say tires. It was a fair race and both of us were expecting the run, he did not have tags yet so maybe his car was not broke in (but I would think the mag times would be from a car not broken in yet.)
I know that my car is not that much of a beast and is just about as fast as a stock auto 2K2 max (which again I beat on the launch, but from a 35 roll to 100 he had his wheels ahead of mine.) We (the new accord V6 coupe) only raced to 75 but regardless I will call it in my favor because he did creep up to me in second but I was a nose ahead in third before shutting it down.

I do love this car though, Mark VIII V8, Aurora V8, Cadillac Seville stock seven spoke chrome wheels looked just like an STS (sounded a little under the weather but a win regardless) Acura TL, Dads 2k3 3.5 auto Altima, latest gen Prelude 5 speed with cat-back and intake (a couple of auto's too) two eclipse GS-T's (one was when I was bone stock, this was at the races and no one could beleive that my stock auto max took an auto GS-T with a boost controler, I was quit happy) MX-6, a couple of previous gen accord V6 coupes, New Grand Am GT, four fourth gen maximas and my most rewarding one third gen max with exhaust, Sentra SE-R with minor mods last weekend, civics, CRX's, neons etc and others that I can't remember. All of these were from a stand still and both drivers ready.

Launching technique
First gear, Power brake and hover around 1800 rpm, launch and manually shift from first to second to D with over drive always on. The strongest point of my car is on the launch right when 3500 rpm hits in first gear, if I don't at least pull a little there, I usually do not win.

Have you kept regular maintenance of the car, and what kind of tires are you running. I will probably be adding a healthy dose of laughing gas (as my 5,500 rpm type of VTEC) just to insure that the races that would be close now can safely be called wins for me by both drivers.

Ahhh yes young Grasshopper, but remember those are the "net" numbers and not what you'll see at the wheels. The truth is most 5 speed 95-99 Maximas with intakes and y-pipes are making more torque at the wheels than a CL-S/TL-S. On average, a modded CL-S with headers makes about 190fwtq. That's 4 fwtq more than what I made before I got my ECU. I'm expecting to see 195fwtq+ when I dyno again. I will give the CL-S motor credit on the topend though, with headers they make around 215-220fwhp which is about 20-25fwhp more than I'm making. HOWEVER, they're pulling an extra 400lbs in weight so it pretty much even out.

As for the new Accords, it is true that they're lack of torque doesn't do them well. One good thing about the new Accord is it's 5 speed auto which helps keep the motor trucking along in it's powerband far better than the long geared 4 speed autos. It doesn't surprise me that some of the new Accord autos are posting 14.7s @ 95mph. It's not the normal, but it's not out of reason.

Street Reeper-
It's time for you to go to the track. You've posted some good kills so now it's time to see what she'll do.
