How do I know if my ECU is shot?

I have been driving around with the CEL since March of this year. It is the MAP/BARO code.

I replaced the solenoid and hoses and the same code is thrown.

The dealership looked at it a couple of days ago. At first they thought it could be a ripped wire in the harness but it wasn't. They had the car hooked up to the Consult and still don't have a clue as to why the same code is being triggered.

They didn't charge me for the 3 hours spent on the car but they told me they will look at it again at another time. The service writer and technican told me they will pull the ECU and "Ohm it out".

I'm definately hoping it's not the ECU. *crossing fingers*

The ECU is pretty good at self-diagnosing itself. I'd bet your problem is in the harness somewhere if they've really replaced the parts. Have them try another solenoid though. I've replaced one broken part with another "new" broken part more than once..... I got two dead TPS's from Chrysler parts once.....

Im having similar problems too..... I might try unplugging my ECU and then reconnecting it to make sure the connection is good with the wiring harness

I think when the ECU is done, is when you try to start your car and it does not go on. And you attemp to jump start your car and still no start....

I agree... But there may be other problems that would allow the car to start and run...... With my car, the CEL does not come on when I turn on the ignition, but after I carnk the car, the CEL comes on and stays on.... I have reset the ECU multiple times and had all codes cleared, but it still does the same thing.... I have repaired the problems that triggered the CEL, but its still doing the same thing....

Sorry about being a thread *****.....

Hey Sandman, I am curious to know if you narrowed down the problem with multiple CEL codes? Was it your ECU?

I also have this problem with my JWT ECU. I get the codes EGR Solenoid and A/T Transmission Controller and I replaced the solenoid and have a 5spd transmission, I also disconnected and reconnected the wiring harness. I am going to swap for my friends 95 5Spd this weekend to see if the codes still come on.

Unfortunately, I ended up getting rid of my Maxima. I hated to do it, but I had to. Multiple repairs on the emission system, and still the CEL came on. I had no job at the time, and literately ran out of money to fix the car. I took the car to a freind of mine here in Atlanta and traded for a Diesel Mercedes Benz. He was going to fix the Maxima and sell it on his car lot, but even he couldnt get it fixed. He even took the car to the dealer, and they couldnt figure it out. He ended up selling the car at auction. I hated to get rid of the car though. That was in june of 2003 when I sold the car. But now, I dont have to worry about the Emission Inspection laws here in Atlanta, as Diesels are exempt from inspection. lol....
