Removing old caliper paint?

Disassemble the brakes completely. All hardware and pads should be off. (Don't take the caliper apart!)
Apply some paint remover, you can get water based paint strippers, let it sit, wire brush it a bit then hose it all off.

actually a can of brakleen will strip it off really easy IF you used hi temp paint like duplicolor engine enamel stuff. if you use folia-tec or G2 or some other lacquor then those resist chemicals.
