MAF wire extension NEED HELP!!!

I need to extend the wire going to the MAF because it does not reach now with my new injen CAI, can anyone with electrical knowledge help me out on this one?

Also what gauge and type is the wire if I were to go to Home Depot and get some?

Please Help, my car is not driveable at the moment

It will reach... undo some of the tape on the harness, you will be amazed how much you can move it then

Otherwise splice it with 16 guage. Their wires are likely only 18, but to step to larger wire (within reason) will not hurt... to go smaller could.

Make sure you solder the wires!!! You do not want oxidization happening in 6 months!!!

hmm, wish I had soldering equipment, are there other ways to prevent oxidation? Can I just wrap them in electrical tape?

heat shrink tubes work better than tape. better yet, heat shrink them then wrap them with tape

You can get a soldering iron for less than $10.

Actually you can get one here for $4.95

It is a tool any car enthusiast should have.

I got them to reach by undoing some of the electrical tape and cutting that rubber tube that goes around them, can I get more of that rubber tubing, the wires are only covered by electrical tape, is that ok?

-If you did not splice the wires, then in all likely-hood, you have nothing to worry about.
-I would just be concerned if you have bare wires (from the MAF) wrapped in tape. Down the road one-day, you are driving in the rain and the moisture gets on the tape and seeps in... that could cause problems. Most wires wont really care too much, because they are only there to supply voltage... but the MAF's signal seen by the ECU is just a 'resistance' signal, which can be influenced by many things. If the resistance changes even a bit the ECU will think that there is more or less air going through the TB, and adjust the injectors accordingly. You car would undoubtably run, but it may not have the correct ratio of air/gas.
-This is why, for this sensor it's best to solder it, if it has to be spliced. Oxidization can change the resistance on the wiring. Oxidization won't occure if the oxigen can't get into the connection, and a good solder job will ensure that... and heat-shrink tubing will help seal it.

all the best!
