I'm Going for it ( 5 speed conversion) but have questions about ecu
I finally found a five speed tranny at the junk yard. It belongs to a 97 GLE it only has 65k miles on it, so I think is in pretty good shape. Before I get it I want to make sure it will work for my car though. I have a 96 GXE and I know I will have to use the 5 speed ecu, will the 97 model ecu be compatible with my car? If its not is there any way to make it work in my car? Thanks for all your help!

ECU's won't be a problem. Sounds good... hopefully that tranny doesn't have any problems like bad diferrential bearings. Someone mentioned that if you stick your hands through the drive axel hole and grab the bearing race, u can try to shake it side to side and if there's alot of play, then the bearings are bad.

Or perhaps it is not a GLE
Or perhaps it is not a GLE
For example...my insurance Co said that my car was a Gle, and when I looked up the meaning, I found that it was a SE. It is definately an SE for me.
