New Car for me!!

Hey,

Im new to the community and i was just woundering what should i do to my maxima first. I want to set my Maxima up for performace racing. But one thing is the money cause im only 16. I was woundering if you guys could help me with what i should do to my car first. Its all stock and its a 1996 there are some pictures of the car in my profile. I no that this question has been ask probably a lot but i couldnt find any threads on it in the search thing, or in the thread thats suppose to answer all questions. I'd be really happy if you guys could help me. Im thinking of a intake first but im not sure which one to get because their are some many of them. So hit me up with some things i can do that will make it for perfomance racing. Oh yea i only want to fix up the engine. I dont really want to do anything to the interior like racing sets or something like that k thanks if you can help me.

First thing you should do? Sell it. Your going to hate that auto transmission, especially after being exposed to the many 5spd's on this board. There is just no comparing the two stock.

So sell the car, get a '95-96 SE 5spd, then come back and we'll talk.

hahaha, don't worry bout it man, there are a lotta 5 spd biased ppl on the org... i personally have a 5 spd and MUCH prefer them over autos, but do what you can with what you got right?
anyway, pick up a budget y-pipe for 15 hp at the wheels 181$$$
and a frankencar intake 100 dollar area!
WELCOME TO THE ORG!

Don't listen to Craig he is playing Maxima hotshot again.

If you are truly looking for a 1/4 mile Maxima, it will be tough to make your auto faster without dropping another $1000 - $1500 into it.

Some possible mods:

Y pipe
CAI
Catback exhaust
Nitrous, plus gauges to run safe etc.

hey sorry to burst your bubble but maximas and i30 counterparts are not race cars. kids these days, try to take a commuter car and make it into a super car, most likely killing themselves or hurting other people. you should just make it run so you're happy with it. but even if you drop serious coin into them, you're still making the wrong decision. there are far better cars to make fast with less money than the guys who drop nos and SC and turbos in their maximas. sell the car and buy a camaro if you want quarter mile times to wow the crowd. owning a max or i30 is about style, comfort, reliablity with a little punch. you're 16 and impressionable but think smartly. but if you're going to do it, check into intake, exhaust, y-pipe. my 2 cents.

ok first and foremost u will need a nice tight suspension to plant those tires down on the ground or u wont have any traction when u hit the track, second get rid of weight, as much weight as you can, 3, start with a intake + y pipe, b pipe, stick with the stock exhaust, the performance gains arn't worth the price tag, and do ur regular maintanence replace all filters, new plugs, tune up if ur goin for 1/4 mile stick with some light 15's with good grippy tires... oh yeah and take a class on how to race, cuz ur only 16, we dont wantcha to kill nobody on tha road tranny cooler, valve body mod

lol i agree, if you want a car for performance racing, you should buy manual not auto. right now if you mod your car, your just making it as fast as a 96 manual stock

who cares whether hes manual or not. sometimes you just have to use what you have. hes only 16, i dont think he needs a camaro anyways. im only 18 and mod my 97' auto. i bought the car because its nice looking, good punch for a cheap family sedan, awesome bang for buck, and reliability. ofcourse i want a manual every day i wake up, but.... i got an unbelievable deal on my car and couldnt pass it up. and his parents gave him his. (dont expect your max to run 12's anytime soon, but its still always fun to play around with mods and just make your car a bit more enjoyable. isnt that what this whole forum is about, making your car more enjoyable?

i have several mods in my 97' and can take most of friends, with their cars and im N/A. i think a high 14 second, N/A auto sedan for under 10k is pretty darn good.

Uhh... yes. It is illegal to remove any emissions control device. Just because the car can pass emissions doesn't the mod is legal.

Honestly, do yourself a favor and spend some money on cosmetic mods first. Hear me out, .. When you wake up every morning and smile because your car looks so good, you'll respect it more and probably not wanna do some of the stupid $hit that performance mods encourage. You're 16... depending on where you live, you probably have been behind a wheel for less than a year. Spend some time learning the car *before* you start racing it. I have a feeling that even if you do start going to the track, you'll still wanna test your car up against whoever is sitting next to you at a stoplight. Do yourself a favor, save up for some nice rims and a new suspension to get rid of the 4x4 look. Just FYI im 19, not some old guy preaching about how streetracing is bad, I enjoy the occasional stop light run, honestly, its a lot of fun. But I've seen several friends fsuk up their cars while doing really stupid ****, so just cruise in style until you have more time behind the wheel. Learning is gradual.
