I'm not sure if I should get my 96 maxima painted black or not, its gold right now. What do you people think? Also what would an average price for a paint job like that cost?

paint

$3-4K. that would include door jams, trunk jams. if you just get the outside painted it would be considerably less. engine bay area, needs to match too.

Uh-Oh....... Better NOT get Maaco....... Maaco paint jobs are the worst... If you want it done correctly the first time, follow the advice given in the previous replies and get it done at a reputable paint shop or collision center...... Get some quotes from different places in your local area and ask them exactly what tthe job includes as far as the brand of paint, and the exact process they will use to the job.....

Please don't do blue. I swear, after Alex, Ange and me painted our cars blue, everyone and their sister is painting their car blue (case in point, the car featured in that link, looks just like mine doesn't it). If you're going to spend all that money, and least try to be original. Silver is very classy and there are so many little tricks you can do to make it stand out. Black is good but hard to keep clean.

Expect to pay $2K up to change the color. But $2K doesn't buy you much more than a decent color change. For true quality work, expect almost $4K+. My last paint job was a $5K+ job for the color change, and my new paintjob should be in the $6K range and that doesn't include the bodywork and I'm not even changing the color much this time, still blue, just a different version.

if you are going to repaint, I'd stay Pebble Biege. A color change is for too much $ for a 96, unless you are going to go all out custom.

Don't listen to this guy he obviously just says what he heard somewhere. I've seen many MAACO paint jobs most of them looked good if not great. $500(now $250) for Ambassador paint job and the results were great on my friends' black RSX( someone poured Pepsi or coke on his car last summer and it ruined most of the paint)...

But tell me something...... How long will that Maaco Paint job last? The car might look good for the first few months after the Maaco Paint job, but Maaco Paint jobs never last. The reason why it only costs 250 dollars is because they dont do much prep work, if any at all....... I have seen 4 different cars that have started looking like crap about a year and a half after getting the Maaco Ambassador Paint Job...... The paint started wearing off, and peeling in some places..... It was horrible...

Spend the money and have it done right the first time by NOT taking it to Maaco

Maaco sucks in every sense of the word. Quality of paint, quality in prep, quality in execution everything.

No, Maaco does suck. They don't prep the car at all, they just spray on an adhesion promoter and paint right over the original paint. You're supposed to sand the original clear off at minimum then prep the surface. They don't remove any parts, if you're lucky they may tape off part of the car. But paint all over the headlights, windshield, mirrors, engine, tires, wheels, exhaust, and even the interior is not uncommon with Maaco jobs. I haven't seen a Maaco paint job yet that didn't have massive amounts of overspray.

And I don't know where their guys learned to paint, but they have absolutely no ability to properly spray paint. I've seen so many people who had their cars painted at Maaco and you could still see the original color underneath. On some of them, Maaco simply missed spots, on others, the paint Maaco sprayed was so thin that the original color faintly showed through.

And they do no finish work either, all the Maaco paint jobs I checked felt like sandpaper. There was so much debris and trash in the paint.

Plus they don't mix their paints correctly. I've seen a bunch of their color changes. Lexus yellow comes out yellow/green. Civic SI blue looks pastel, etc.

2 of my good friends run body shops so that's why I see so many Maaco jobs. Most of these cars are in my friend's shop's to be repainted because the Maaco job is so terrible.

So if you really want to get Maaco, do it. But be prepared for the consequences.

if you are going with maaco, you will have to do all the prep work yourself. their top quality 700 dollar paint job isn't bad. 3 coats of 3m paint and 3 clear coats. and you'll be saving big bucks. but like everyone has said, they don't know how to prep a car, and that is what counts if you want a paint job to last.
