Iridium Spark Plugs

Well on ebay they are cheaper than the NGK Laser Platinum plugs that I'm supposed to use on the max...
Also the iridium plugs are supposed to out perform the platinum?
Should I get iridium or platinum??

I would go with the NGK Platinums....... If you have a Supercharger, a Turbo or Nitrous, go with the new NGK Iridium plugs.....

I was wondering how the new NGK iridiums do on a max, as well. I know that iridium has a better temperature range than platinum, but I wonder if the plugs are made similar to the platinums. Oh yeah, does anyone know how much the NGK iridiums cost?

Iridium plugs are suppoed to handle higher combustion chamber pressures that are common with Turbo/Supercharged engines as well as Nitrous..... I dont know how true that is because I have a N/A car and have never used Iridium plugs...... Its something to look into though.... I have been interested in using Iridium plugs myself, byt I haven had the time or money to buy them and install them....

Denso Iridiums are recommended by the manufacturer to be replaced every 30,000 miles. Iridium plugs have a center electrode which is 25% of the size of a regular plug. This small electrode creates an electrode erosion problem. Best all around plugs for our cars is the NGK Laser Platinum Plug. Both electrodes are platinum - less electrode erosion and optimum performance for a longer period of time. Go with the NGK Laser Platinums and forget about plugs for 4 or more years! You wouldn't be sorry. By the way I see the NGK Laser Platinums on ebay all the time going for $42 shipped for all 6.

So is NGK PFR5G-11 the oem plug? I can't find them on eBay so where should I buy them from? What price is reasonable for all 6? Thanks.

I just picked up 6 new NGK Platinum PFR5G-11 plugs on ebay for $37 shipped. Every now and then they pop up for sale. It was the 3rd time I saw them in the past month or 2, so I figured I'd buy them.

I have them and got them off ebay also. Sandman is right, you probably won't notice or feel any difference between platinum and iridum unless you have a SC. If you find them for the same price...then go with iridium...can't hurt. But if the platinums are cheaper...then go platinum. Don't waste money on something that you really aren't going to get anything out of.

Peace - Chad

<sprintmax> Get copper plugs. Better spark and way cheaper. You just have to change them every 30k. </sprintmax>

I just ordered the iridiums off ALLTRAC725 on ebay. It has been two weeks however since I paid the man and I still have no plugs so I can't tell you what I think of them. I've sent him two e-mails w/no reply, but the guy has good feedback so I don't know why he would screw me. I heard iridiums spark better then plats and I had some extra cash so I picked them up.

I got denso iridiums from a friend and I felt some difference. Don't ask me where he got them because i got no clue. The iridium gives like maybe 5-8 extra HP. Doees anyone have the NGK iridium plug number for a 5th gen VQ30DE (no the VQ35DE), I'g like to see if there is any differene in power.

How did you figure out what number you need. I don't feel like going through all that trouble to take out one plug.

30K replacement intervals. Not such a bad thing. If you leave on 100K platinum plugs, they may "weld" on after such a long time.

My recommendation is re-wetting plugs every 50K or so (putting a drip or two of oil on the threads), regardless of their typical lifespan.

I'm currently still trying to loosen an O2 sensor (original), on an old mitsubishi (with a two meter custom breaker bar). I took off the exhaust manifold and it still won't budge. It isn't fun having to deal with age-welded parts.

I used the iridium for just over 30k miles. Don't waste your money. The platinums looked better with 58k miles on them than the iridiums do with 30k miles. No difference in performance, period.

Forget about it. 30k is pushing it to the limit.

its all inr ur head, when u change plugs u'll notice a difference right off the bat, wait a week and it will be gone as the electrodes begin their wearing cycle, i had iridiums on my 240 bc i wanted that extra power, and i had just bought stock replacement plugs before the iridiums maybe a month before, and the iridiums hurt my performance compared to the stock replacements
