3 Questions...................

1) I've noticed this twice: when I'm in the garage in my building, something "turns on" under the good that sounds like a fan or something. Sounds similar to the air conditioner sound you'd hear in your house. My friend told me that this is normal and it's an "extra fan" cooling off the engine, I find this odd being I heard this twice, in my garage. it lasts for roughly 30 seconds and than just "turns off." Can anyone tell me what this can be and is it normal?

2) When i'm in neutral, the rpm's seem to "vibrate," meaning they go to 600 +/- 25, never just staying even in 1 place. I looked in my friends car, he has an automatic and it doesn't do that, I tried seeing my other friend's 9-5 5 spd and his are also stable, what can be causing this, and is this normal for a manual maxima?

3) I'm averaging about 220 miles on a full tank. I filled up 93 and my driving was all city, still this seems a little low for me, being that the car is manual. I'm not the best stick driver but this still seems to be abyssmal, does anyone have any insight into this?

thanks in advance for the help

1)normal
2)im not one to ask, haha, dont know about that
3)Check fuel filter, plugs, etc, etc. Sometimes sensors that are going bad can affect fuel effiency. But it all depends on your driving too....

Its just a fan cooling the engine, its normal pretty much on any car, listen to someone elses car and you'll understand.

Did you already replace the knock sensor?

Being that you are a beginner at manual, thats probably why you mpg is low...

no knock sensor will be replaced shortly, also, I never heard that in my old car, I had a '90 mazda MPV, also, by you the fan also works for about 30 or so seconds?

#2 could be the TPS throttle position sensor. there are some threads about idle jumping around not too long ago...just sift through the last few pages of topics and you will find a good thread about it.

about the fan, my car doesnt do this! I know other cars DO do it, I've heard several accords and german vehicles doing this, but never in MY car...i didnt even think the maxima/I30s did that.
