Re: Reprogramming Ecu & Keys

how did you come to need to have the keys reprogrammed in the first place??? I ask because my keys needeed to be reprogrammed a few months ago. The dealer charges $60 per key plus an extra $100 service charge on top. He said that it was because while i ws in the store somebody probably tried to unlock the door with any non programmed key and shut the whole system down. Had to get the car towed the the shop, a MAJOR hassle. This will happen again the next time some fool sticks any old key in the slot.

is there any way to turn the security system off so the whole system wont be shut down if an uncoded key is tried????? Thnks

I payed $21.34 to have my keys reprogrammed when I installed my new ECU. No, you CAN'T shut off the system. Thant is why it is a SECURITY system.

I also was thinking of bypassing the system somehow...I got only one key,so if I loose it...I m done. The ideea of $100 for a key doesn t really make too happy...I don t know if anyone had a car starter installed ,and they bypassed the system...If Im not wrong, the coded key should be installed (taped ?)close to the ignition switch.Anybody have done this kind of project ?

I got the car fixed by a familiar local shop. They actually called in a
favor from a Nissan friend and after reprograming the ecu, both my keys,
and $75 I was on my way. The scary part was when one of the guys said
that the stealership would have gladly REPLACED my ecu thru my a$$.

Thats exactly what the dealer did to me but i only had the car 3 months when it happened so they replaced the ecu (even though probaly all that was needed was for the keys to be reprogrammed) and i didn't pay a dime.I wonder how much they would have charged otherwise
