ECU question

Why is it that one cannot put an ECU from any 4th gen onto another 4th gen? And, why are the production dates so important?

the 97+ have differnet emmisions, so there ECU's are different. You can use other ECU's you you may throw a code

QUESTION: ...

So you cannot change them from 95,96 to 97,98,99. But can you change them from 95 to 96, etc.?? Can I drop a 96 SE ECU into my 95 GXE??

thanks,
dave

As long as the transmission is the same, you should be able to do that with no problems. "should be"

So does that mean the 97, 98, and 99 ecu's are interchangable?

When you say it throughs codes, can you give me more information about that?
Does it through the same codes over and over? Or just when you first put it in? Is it throughing codes for things not related to transmition, etc.???

Thanks again!

I had them all written down somewhere, but I can't seem to find the list. Most of them are for either the EVAP system I don't have, o2 sensors that are different, and the auto tranny that I don't have. The codes came as soon as I installed it and will not go away no matter how many times I clear them.

It is also giving me a Front lft htd o2 sensor, that code should be legit but I don't trust this ECU. I am not replacing anything untill I get my ECU back in the car.

Can I ask why you put a different ECU in your car? What were the benefits you were looking for?? I'm just trying to get rid of my speed limiter, this is the only way I've heard that doesn't cause other problems... but from what your saying it may not be worth it either...

Again, thanks

Because my ECU is being upgraded by Jim Wolf Technology and I needed an ECU to use for a few weeks.
