ERROR --> EVAP control system/Flow. help please

Hey all,

I'm getting an EVAP error code 01 11
Along with a knock sensor code.

Question... What does the EVAP control system do exactly?
and how much and what do i need to replace it?

I've heard of EVAP before... but my knowledge of it stops there...

Any help would be great. Thanks

I'm getting the same exact thig...and I had all of this replaced last year with the recall. Did you just recently change your sparkplugs, cause I did, then this crap started happening.

well hard to say because i changed my spark plugs like last summer...
the only thing is that my cel light never had a light in it!! I only noticed this like 2 months ago... so it could have been being thrown since back then. But I can't know for sure.

Usually the EVAP codes are thrown because of a leaky gas cap or a sticky EVAP purge valve. The purge valve is located behind the left rear wheel and is subject to contamination because it's in a nasty spot. Usually cleaning that valve clears the EVAP code most of the time. WD-40 is your friend.

hmm everytime i unscrew my gas cap i always hear a decompression sound. So I assume it's holding in the pressure pretty well... leave to to believe the purge valve is contaminated :-/

hmm, you say behind the left rear wheel.

3 Questions...
- What will it look like?
- What is it used for
- How negative will it do to my car?

Thanks

Look for a black box behind the left rear wheel on the underside of the car. On the front of that box is the Purge valve that has been mentiones..... It has 2 hoses and 1 electrical connector connected to it...... Thats the valve that needs to be taken off and cleaned with WD 40

I had the same problem a few months ago. I cleaned the rusted valve with Liquid Wrench, and it solved the problem for a while. Yesterday my CEL came back on and it was the EVAP valve again. This time I'm just going to replace the part.

question... to remove this evap valve... can't i simply remove the (i believe i saw) 3 valves connected to it? just like that? Will anything come out of them if i disconnect them? I just want to be sure that i'm not going to drench myself is something... hehe

Thank.

yeah, i'm getting code 0807 (even though mine's a evap valve/circuit code). i was under the impression the evap canister was close to the egr valve under the throttle body. that's what my manual showed at least....

also,
if you have a FSTB check if it doesnt rub on any of the plastic valves.
Mine broke the nipple on the valve and caused vacum leak.
Took me like 2 months to find that.

I had the same code 01 11 last weekend. A peek under the hood showed a tiny hose w/ a tear in it. I did a quick repair w/ electrical tape and zip ties and replaced the hose the following day. The hose tore due to the metal tube it was mounted to was at an odd angle which caused stress to the underside of the hose. I adjusted the tube so it's more in-line w/ the hose now. Looking at the image below from VQ Power, the area I'm talking about is just to the right of the throttle cable and just under the FSTB. Look for the black circular plastic item. It has a hose on it's right hand side which connects to a metal tube - it is only about 3" long. Your issue is most likely not exactly the same... just my experience w/ 01 11.

question, can you simply remove this hose like that? will anything come flying out of it if disconnected? I'll check mine tonight.

Thanks

i've removed that hose while working on the car before and nothing came out. i know the evap system just uses gas fumes, which should be what is in there (i would think...).

nothing came out when it was removed - it was dry. You may have to cut off the hose w/ a razor and then replace it w/ a fresh hose.

Dude I got a '97 I get the 0807 code "EVAP canister purge control valve circuit fault." Haynes says mine should be behind the fuel tank on the driver's side as well. So what does this code mean? What do I replace? The canister? Or is there a valve on it that can be replaced? Is there a solenoid or something?

I think that is where it is for the 1995 without california emissions, which I believe is what they call the federal emissions model. Somebody tell me if I'm right. Anyway, which is the EVAP canister purge control valve? The rectangular box? Or the circular thing? The smaller circular, cylindrical thing has hoses coming out of it. I wish they put a picture of that there. Maybe I can scan a pic of the bottom of the car and somebody tell me which thing it is.
