*NEWBIE POSTING*

2 months ago I bought a Silver 98 Maxima SE, and 3 weeks ago a drunk driver blew a red light and hit me (fortunately no one was hurt).

I just got my car back from the body shop, and I'm not impressed at all. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of my car before the accident, and the pictures I've been able to find on the forums seem to be custom cars (very nice though).

I'm curious if the front stock bumper has holes or not for a front license plate. I don't believe my old bumper did, but this new one does. Also, how should the fenders line up with the headlights? I'm not very knowledgeable about cars, but I do know that what I'm seeing isn't right. On one side the black rubber (don't know what it's called) around the headlights presses right against the fender, on the other side there is a 1/4 inch gap between the black rubber and the fender. Which is correct?

One more thing, the insurance company only fixes what is broken, so I have new paint on parts of my car, and 6 year old paint on the other parts. Although they did some "blending", but it's pretty obvious when wet what's new and what isn't. He recommended I get my car detailed and that would help brighten the old paint. Any suggestions for a product which would do this?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice,

Ayii

Usually insurance companies talk about how it is there job to make sure the car gets returned to the condition it was in before the collision.

Obviously yours has not been fixed well. Call your insurance people and the shop and tell them that you are not satisfied and that you want it fixed.

Re: Body Shop of Horrors - Stock 98 SE
I was in a very similar situation. Somebody did a hit and run on my car last year. The shop i took my vehicle to did a horrible job on it. They redid it 3 times and couldnt get it right. I was really **** and the best way to get this type of matter resolved is... if the insurance wont help you (and they wont) and the body shop wont do anything about it (and they wont) take it up a notch. Inform that shop that if they dont correct the problem that you'll take further actions against the company. If they dont' budge then write a letter to the body shop indicating your dissatisfaction with the work they did. In detail describe what happen and whats wrong, including dates. Tell them you want things corrected or you'll file complaints to the better business bureau. Send the letter to the company thru certified mail and the signature thing. Wait for a reply. IF the reply isn't positive then contact the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. Then contact the Attorney generals office in ur state and file a complaint. Also get in touch with a lawyer and have the lawyer write a letter in your behalf to the body shop. This will usually get their attention. If all said and done and nothing happens still then leave it in the hands of the BBB and the attorney generals office. The BBB and attorney generals office will contact you and the body shop and try to resolve the matter. The only problem is it may take a long time. MY problem started like around april or may of 2002 and I just got things resolved like last month. The body shop found every method they could to drag it on. But in the end my car was fixed correctly and my entire car was repainted at no cost, but the paint color still wasn't what it was before =\. At least it wasn't 3 toned anymore.

Sorry for the long post. hope that helps

I just came back from the auto body shop and they're going to "fix" everything.

I'm leary, but we'll see how it goes.

When you get it back from them "fixing" their mistakes, if it still isnt to your liking, dont even take the car home ith you...... Point out the mistakes to them and tell them to redo it until they get it right. Go over the car with a fine toothed comb as the old saying goes...
