Pros/Cons of 20's

Hey all, new to the site and just getting into learning about cars.

I want to put 20's on my 95. Besides performance, what are the cons of going with dubs? I have done some research but can't seem to get a definite answer on them screwing up the front-end and causing other damage.

Pros: Looks hot. Can say you have "Dubz".
Cons: Very harsh ride. Will look bad unlowered, will rub lowered. Tires cost a fortune. Easy to bend the rims. Most styles only come in chrome. Mucho dinero.

Well, basically every 20" rim comes in one of two different finishes chrome or chrome, and not exactly a clean 5 spoke either, if you enjoy looking at your rotors, you may want to just get some 19"s. I'm being somewhat sterortypical but 20s on a Max = drug dealer to me heh. It'll look like crap if you don't lower the car, but if you do, expect a lot of fender rolling and wheel well work, as someone already mentioned. Oh, your speedo will be off, regardless of sidewall height.. unless you can find some 245/15/20 but.. gl on that.

Thanks...sounds like it isn't worth it just for the look. I'll probably go 18 or 19. I'm not concerned with speed/performance right now. Just working on looks.

19 or 20

19" if u commute everyday
20" if your car is a weekend car.

16"-18" are for the wimpy ohhhhh i'm afraid i'm gonna bend a rim...girly ppl

slow? a maxima is mad slow.......anyone who makes a max go fast is stupid.....nuff said
if you want fast/ put the $2X,XXX on a used 94-97 supra TT and have about 10,000+ left for a nice body kit and a hot paint job

but if you follow that logic, why mod a maxima at all? people can just say it's a 4-door family sedan that's the size of a boat! not to mention the $$ for bigger size rims...

but yeah, i regret getting 17", i'm a wimpy girly

I live in Miami, and if your not ridin on anything less than 20's it seems as if your just riding on some lil *** rims, but basically I wanted 20's too, but i kno thats hurts performance, which I am lookin for.... I have tried find 19's at a good price, but to no avail, and tire prices for 19's are as much or considerably higher than those of 20 inch sizes. So I might settle and get some 18's and call it a day. Im a baller on a budget....

Holla if ya feel me. btw. does anyone out there know of some places where I can get some 18-19s relatively cheap???? alloy finish, I'm not necessarily looking into chrome. thanks

there are no advantages to 20s. imho they look humongous and ugly on anything smaller than an expedition. just my opinion.

HAHA thats just too funny!
The biggest I would go is 19's but after I lower my car I am so glad I got 18's. The more rubber the better the feeling!

Why wast money on some Ghetto 20 inch rims? You just want to fit in with the popular thing to do...... I say Screw being popular...... The things you own end up owning you.......

I guess my Tyler Durden side came out...... lol

you could fit dubs on your maxima with no problems. just lower the car. you would need to go with this tire size to avoid any problems, and keep the speedo accurate. this is the size i will be using p245/30r20 pirelli p nero or p255/30r20 pirelli p nero. tire rack will carry this size, i am just waiting for them to become available. which should be at the end of next week. already have 20inch enkei. just waiting for rubber. over all diameter on p245/30r20 is 25.9 o.d. will install and have pics as soon as i figure out what im going to do with skyline body kit that does not fit.

Sounds like this guys has a slow Maxima

I like 17s because they look like the right size on the Maxima. Not too big, no too small. I also care about my acceleration, handling, and braking.

As for slow, MEVI and JWT ECU ($1200), hacked stock airbox ($40), non-mandrel y-pipe ($190), UDP ($180), and a 2001 Maxima muffler = 14.4@100mph with a crap 60 foot. I enjoy being able to run with most the 5.0s, 99+ Mustang GTs, and LT1/L98 F-Bodies at my track. It give me a sense of accomplishment competing against much more powerful cars with a 4-door V6 sedan.

If I wanted FAST, I sure as HELL wouldn't be wasting money on Supra. A Supra is an horrible drag racing platform and big power Supras are damn near deadly because power is like a switch, either on or off.

Eric

hey eric, how ya been??

with 20's you will have a harsh ride, you will have to roll your rear fenders, your speedo will be off, you technically should get worse gas mileage, even though i haven't noticed much of a difference, a loss of performance is unavoidable, and they cost a lot to replace......but i don't think that all 20's have to look ghetto. as long as it's lowered you can make it work.

hey jim, doing pretty good here. Same **** different day it seems..

But i agree on that. I would think most 20s would look ghetto, but i definately like yours. I do think though that chrome 20s on a max look ghetto, regardless of design. I just wouldnt want to be in your shoes when it comes time to replace those massive 20s. What does it run you, at least 200-225 a tire, no?

also good summary, although I'd also add "I want to go fast" to the 16" to 18" category
