Wheel question, auto question, all in 1 thread

Okay first off, I want to know if Reproduction Wheels (copy of OEM) are any good? Theres a set that I'm looking into, its not OEM, its remanufactured, and I want to know if its as good as OEM. Or near as good. Also, I have an auto question. My dad has a 96 SE auto (90k) and its really hard to go from Park to any other gear. You litteraly have to wrestle with it to get it to move, say to drive or reverse. This isnt normal is it? I thought it was supposed to be smooth, or at least smoother. With his shifter, you have to wrestle out of Park. Any ideas? Thanks.

The wheels should be fine.

Check the transmission fluid level and the the brake-shifter interlock cable.

take the trim peice off around the shifter (try doin this with car in first gear and e-brake pulles up. Look at where the metal bar coonects to the shifter that pulls when the brake are applied. (car must be in park to see this after trim is removed) the bar (skinny metal tub like structure) should move slightly back and forthe pulling a crescnet shaped piece of plastic. WD40 that spot and the bar while you are at it. Let me know waht happens.

Make sure you are stepping on the brake when trying to shift. Then we can troubleshoot from there with the linkage, etc...

Thanks for the suggestions. He does press down on the break when he shifts, but I'll try the other stuff. How can I take off the shifter trim piece? does it pop off, scew driver? Thanks.

To take off the trim, use a flathead screwdriver and carefully pry up the rear of the trim (towards the armrest). Once that side is up, pull the rest up and the other clips will come out. You'll need to put the shifter in D or lower to totally remove it. Also keep in mind the cigarette lighter, so unplug it from the back before trying to totally remove the trim.
