Um...well...

What are you looking for? I have cut Eibachs and I think my ride is awesome. Do you plan to go with struts? Which, Toks or Koni? My car is really low with the cut springs but there is very little bounce with my Koni's. There is one problem that I have though...the springs in the rear are too short and are not seated completely when the car is raised or goes over a bump very fast, so when the car's weight goes back to the rear springs, there is a clunk noise. I've learned to deal with it and my mechanic said it really isn't something that I need to worry about. What area are you from? If you're around SoCal, you're more than welcome to take my car for a little spin to see if you like the ride. Oh yeah, and the 18's made my ride a lot stiffer/harsher.

Do not cut those springs! For every one enthusiast that did this and liked the result, there are many more who're sorry they ever did! If you cut those springs, you will almost certainly end up with poor ride quality and tires that wear poorly. You could even degrade your suspension geometry to the point of DANGER. Cutting your springs may look like a low-cost alternative now, but it's not. It could even cost you your life. (Hey, you asked!) Good luck.

Noooo

Cutting is bad, VEERRRRYYYYY BAD. Have you ever ridden in a car with cut springs. OH MY GOSH. The ride is horrible. Either the springs are too bouncy or they are too too too harsh. Don't do it. Leave them the way they are.

If you want a really low car why don't you just buy Sprint Springs. They are only $119 through a groupbuy. Sprint lowers the car 2 inches all around.

lower than 2" drop!!!!

Go with ground control or save up for a complete set of Cattman coilovers. You can have the best of both worlds and just incase you get tired, you can raise it back up. I had a set of ground control but didn't do much adjusting and i sort of killed my stock struts from drivng around so low so i sold it and got H&R with Koni struts/shocks

Maxed Bandit I have a similar problem with my rear springs too. However it's only a real problems when I put a lot of weight on them (passengers). I think it's because the there is a lot more force on them with the extra weight. I've lived with the clunking too.

Eibach is not good for cutting since they are progressive wound. The ride quality will be very very bad. I did that once to another car I had. A week later I decided to get a set of H&R. Yes, it looked cool with the cut springs but that's all it was good for.

With cut Eibach:

With H&R:

if you know where to cut

you can get an extra 1/4 inch w/o any bounce or ride quality compromise. But 1/4" is all you can get!

I've done it to a set of eibachs.
You can cut the very top "dead" coil. It is the coil that compresses totally and basicly just lays on top of the next coil. The amount of drop is exactly the diameter of the spring itself. The ride is fine, and I had 18's at the time.

All these people that say don't either has cut too much off, or are just repeating hear say. And yes, if you cut too much off, your car will bounce like hell because of a lack of shock damping. New shocks will help.

Just buy the sprint springs.
Save up for a front camber kit too.
Save up for new shocks too when your stocks blow up from being too low. And they will. Take it from me, I've trashed three AGX from short piston travel.

I would sell the Eibachs uncut and get the springs you want. If you didn't like the way they turn out who would buy them? I can see someone sitting in someone else's Max with Eibachs and then decide that they would like to get a set for themselves but would be hesitant about buying a set of cut Eibachs because they don't know what the ride will be like.

MAC, I agree with you on cutting the dead coils since they don't have any use anyway. However, I believe only the rear ones have dead coils, not the front. First, I have never seen Eibach springs for Maxima. For the Eclipse, the front has to be cut by one full coil in order to make them fit. It seems to be the same way with H&R for Maxima. In either case there's no dead coils in the front.
