Almost time to buy some tires. Here are the
choices I have. If you have any comments about
any of them, I sure would appreciate it. The
size I am getting is 225/50-16. Price, noise
and responsiveness are all a concern. Not interested
in Kumho's, Goodyears, Firestones.

1) Bridgestone RE-730s - highest priced tire I
would consider, good tread life, responsive but
seem to get a few complaints on noise. (~300) ($107)

2) SP-5000 Dunlop - better priced, equally responsive,
no word on noise, good tread life (~300) ($99)

3) Yokohama dB - good price, least noisy of them all,
unsure about responsiveness, great tread life (~340)
($104)

4) BfGoodrich CompTA ZR4 - great price, great tread life,
don't know about noise levels and responsiveness ($85)

Thanx!

I looked at those tires you were looking at on tirerack...If I was you I wouldn't go with a high performance tire, they don't last but about 20,000 miles...Thats what came on my max was toyo (hi-per).They were good in the dry,not so good in the wet....When I replaced my tires.I went with Bridestone re910...Allseason tire LOVE-LOVE-LOVE these tires....The same handleing in wet or dry(What I mean by that is the car feels the same on dry or on wet pavement)----No tire noise...Look 150times better than I thought they would....(Alot of complements on how they looked..More than the toyos)I hope to get 65,000 miles out of these tires...Oh yea...Only $85 a tire on tirerack...If you want to know more;Let me know....

Love my RE730's. Super dry and wet grip. I'm guessing from their wear rating they should last me about 30,000 miles. These tires are truly amazing. And I have no complaints about noise with mine. I've only put about 2000 miles on my set, so I'm not sure if they make noise when they are worn down.

I have the SP5000's and they are super quiet. It's actually quite amazing. Handling is very progressive, and dry traction is phenomenal. I highly recommend them.

The RE730's are classified as an Ultra High Performance tire where as the SP5000's are classified as an Ultra High Performance All Season Tire. You really can't compare the two. The RE730's will give better dry grip hands down. The SP5000's will give better wet and snow traction.

I just got SP5000's and I'm pretty impressed with them in the slippery weather (NE). So far I'm not blown away by their dry grip - however, I haven't had a day over 40 deg. since I bought them. Maybe the roads just aren't warm enough.

I have Pirelli P7000 Supersports on my 17's and they are in one word.....awesome. They have superb handling, wet or dry. Haven't tried them in snow since I do live in GA. There is absolutly no noise what-so-ever from them. I haven't squealed them once either. They are Z-rated tires, good for about 50,000, or so they say. If you are willing to spend a little more, you are getting a really good tire.
