p.o.s. gas light didn't come on......

I wanted to see exactly how bad my mpg is, so I decided to drive until the red light comes on, and divide that number by 16.5 since supposedly you have 2 gallons left when it lights up. I thought it was getting a little low, and boom, the car won't start, out of gas. Does anyone know why it might not of lite up, I seen it light up before, also, does running out of gas COMPLETELY f*** up the fuel pump?

It's so much better and safer to tank up, reset your trip counter, drive until the tank shows very low, tank up again and divide the #miles on the trip couner with he #gallons in he second fillup.

Costs less to fill it up that way too.

Maybe the bulb died behind the low fuel light. Also when I had my max the fuel sending unit failed and when I would get down to a 1/4 tank the gas gauge stopped reading correctly. The first time it happened my max literally cut out as I pulled into the gas station.

Even with a functional fuel sending unit the low fuel light was never consistent. The light would come on anywhere between 2 to 3 gallons in the tank.
