Does your gas tank door stick out?

When my gas tank door is closed, the front side of it (the side it hinges on) sticks out about 3/16" from the body. I never noticed it before and I'm worried that some gas station employee might have bent it out.

Anyway, does yours sit totally flush or does it stick out some?

ooh...sorry to hear that...mine is flush with the car which leads me to believe that you are correct about it having been bent at some point.

It was probably the pump monkey at the Kwik Fill.

That is the reason that I never let anyone fill my tank but me, that and they always seem to lose your gas cap...I mean, what's the deal with that?

I've stopped letting mechanics work on my car because they always seem to screw it up. Now I can't even let somebody pump my gas. I mean, how do you screw up pumping gas?

Mine is bent also Kris. The door doesn't shut at all anymore(ghetto). I ordered a used one off of Sal here on the org. Once it is bent it is hard as hell to get it to bend back the way it is supposed to go. Good luck.

yeah, mines bent to. One day my mom was pumping gas and trying to close hte door and it wouldn't close at all. Not really sure what happened. I doubt its had to fix though, its real easy to bend metal and after playing with it for a couple of minute I can get it to close but the level/switch is off so i just push the front part and it pops open, still sticks out like your though but its a lot better than being open all the time.

ok, just got back from outside, my job just had a fire drill so I used that time to work on my gas door. Bent it back as close as i could get it to how its supposed to be and it doesn't look all that bad. the level works now and the door doesn't stick out. Only thing is its not centered perfectly, but that doesn't bother me much.

So go try it, just use your weight and lean on the door with your hands, it worked for me.

BMR4Life: Good to know that you did it with no problem. I'm just going to try and bend it back tonight.
