Jumpstart Fiasco
Was jumpstarting my I30 and ran into some trouble that was a bit confusing...was wondering if anyone on here knew what was giong on:
The battery was dead and so I connected the leads from my mom's car onto my battery in the correct order. However, instead of attaching the ground onto the engine block somewhere, i just stuck it onto the negetive lead of the battery terminal. The doors on the car were unlocked. When I touched the lead to the negetive on my battery, the car alarm started to go off suddenly (it was quite startling to be standing RIGHT next to the horn when its going off!). So i disarmed, and tried again by touching the engine block...same thing happened. So finally, I managed to keep the driver's door open and connect it without having the alarm going off. I waited a few mins, and then when i went to start it, a HUGE spark flew off from the negetive lead and the car's power supply was totally gone (clock and lights were working before and then were gone). I've done many jumpstarts before on many diff. cars, but this was really strange. I alraedy got a new battery and everything turned out fine (all electronics are fine) but I was wondering if anyone knew what went wrong?

i was always taught to put the ground(negative cable) on the car your getting the jump from and place both the negative and positve cables on the car being jumped. it has worked on all the cars ive jumped or gotten jumped from.
good luck

Actually, you can get a thing at your local Wal-mart that you can carry in your trunk that will jump start any car..... I dont remember the name of the product, but look in the battery section of the automotive department....... You charge it up, stick it in your trunk and it stays charged for a long time...... If your battery dies, you can use it to start your car by hooking it up to your battery..... Its been a life saver for me quite a few times...... (especially when helping out a beautiful girl with a dead battery)

yeah, thats how i eventually got the car jumpstarted (i originally left that part out)...i went to check prices on those, they're around 100 bucks. i guess its basically a car battery in a box with leads...it works instantly.
