Atf Fluid=ps Fluid?

Atf Fluid=ps Fluid?
Hey guys, I am considering the turkey baster method of changing out my Power steering fluid on my 99 Max SE-L. My car is coming up on 40k. I fgure it can't hurt. Anyway, I was talking to my friend he mentioned that I should use ATF fluid in the power steering resivoir- I was like WTF?! Whats the deal? If this is so, then would putting a synthetic atf fluid be the right thing to do? What type/brand ATF fluid would go in there? I am all about preventative maintenence. If it is true that I should use ATF, then does the car come from the factory with the same exact fluid in the tranny as in the PS box? I would like to begin the process tonight so any comments are very much welcome. Anybody have any idea when the search feature might be up again? Thanks all.

You can remove even more PS fluid if you disconnect one of the rubber hoses leading away from the reservoir. Disconnect the hose at the point where it connects to the metal tube going towards the front of the car. Let the fluid drain out of the rubber hose into a small container.

I'm unsure about a write-up, but the Turkey Baster method is easy enough. Simply open up the power steering fluid reservoir, stick in your turkey baser and suck a bunch of it up. Empty your baster in to an oil pan / bucket. -Repeat-
When you have sucked out as much as you can, pour in new fluid (Dextron III or equivalent). This is kind of like the drain and refill method of changing Auto Tranny ATF.
