Internal Engine Modifications for Maxima?
OK guys, heres one for you. I know of the basic bolt on mods, the ECU, the SC, and the Pulley wheel, but how about internal modifications?
Has anybody here ever ripped open the engine to tweak out some more HP here or there?

Not necessaryily for me
I'm probably never gonna get to that extreme, but I have a friend that did with his Bimmer, and my GF's Dad did with a mid 80's Geeter. I'm just curious as to if anybody here has done it, or knows of other people doing it.
It's possible. One way is to research other factory Nissan parts than can swap into the VQ to either get you higher compression, less compression, more displacement through rod length, crank throw, bigger pistons etc.... got to know what you are doing here. No bozos here.
There is also the option of having someone design pistons, rods, cranks and cams to your own specifications. Again no bozo rule here also.
Also there is the option of getting your stock heads modified to breath better. Porting, head milling etcc... I don't know how much you can mill and still retain the proper chain tension and CAM TIMING w/o the use of adjustable cam timing sprokets but a few thou probably would'nt change things too much.
Any mods like this may need an ecu re-program to work and definately probably needs one to gain maximum potential of the mods you just did.
And for the love of anything religious, don't bring up that SC article, IT WAS JUST THEORY FOLKS!

Cool deal
Let us all know what you create Don.
Jeff, do you know of anybody that has done it?
Seeing as how my future father-in-law is somewhat of a motor head, I'd like to punch up the Max one day. He had to give up the Geeter a couple of years ago because he blew the engine. Now he just has his Porche, SHO, and Audi A6. From what I hear, his Geeter was a beast. Red Chrome engine and trimmings that used to beat on his porche at the track. Any of you guys ever seen this Geeter? Blew about 2.5 years ago in Waterburry, CT and was sold for 2G.
He kinds misses modding his VW, so he's been talking about revamping the SHO. Might be a cool bonding exercise with him someday to get my Max in top shape...

The big differences between the VQ and the bug, Porsche and sho engines is that someone has actually done performance rebuilds on these engines before. I guess you'll have to wait until Don is done. But he's nortorious for not giving any specific info until he's done. Plus I'll guess he will offer performance ungrades in VQs when he's done w/ his.

im also building a spare motor to use for increased boost. pistons, rods, SS valves, cams, and some headwork. I havent seen any parts out there for the VQ30DE motor. Everything had/has to be custom made. Its alot of work but its a great feeling when your finally done. Im in the 7th month of building the motor.

7th month of building the motor? Why? Are you hand making all the parts? I started mine about 2 weeks ago, it will be ready in less than 30 days.
Whats the hold up?
Don
A pity...

, but getting the crank and rods will be a tad expensive.
