Short Throw Shifter Questions...

Anyone know where I can get a good short throw for how much?? I remember reading about the B&M, and I am leading towards it, but I don't know how much or where I could get one. How do you remove the stock shift ****, etc..? Thanks, Peeps.

I don't have an answer to where to get the B&M.

As to how to install an STS, look here If you're not already using a tranny fluid like Red Line or Amsoil, you might want to consider that. I put in Red Line and the shifts were much smoother (that was before my STS install).

The shift **** just unscrews but it is on there very tight. You probably need a strap wrench or a big pair of pliers and a rag to protect the ****. In some cases the **** gets wrecked when you take it off no matter what you do.

The pacesetter STS is about $70 from Custommaxima, there was a group deal on the B&M not to long ago, it might still be going on, but it is around $140 or so I belive.

Re: Short Throw Shifter Questions...

I just installed my B&M STS this weekend. It kicks ****!! The throws are much more precise and (obviously) quicker. I highly recommend it. It took about 3 hrs (I have access to a lift). The most difficult part was pulling out the original. I got mine through .SummitRacing for $139 plus shipping. I highly recommend it!

I've heard only good from B&M short shifters. I plan on getting one soon.

Pacesetter= u have to grind down the ball to get it to fit in some cases. But its a cheap price... 140 seems like alot to pay though! I think i might go with pacesetter.

i have a 96 gxe with 90k on it and im this is my first "actual" car(i used to have a ford taurus hehehe).my question is,is it normal for the tachometer to just go as far as 4.5k-5k on the rpm coz thats just the most that i am gettin no matter how steep the hill is and how much i floor the gas.would this be a symptom of something major?

Grinding it down to the right size is easy with a Dremel tool and a good grinding bit. Shave down the pivot ball one "hemisphere" at a time & test fit in the holder/bearing thing (not sure of proper name).

I have driven a 97 with a Pacesetter and really didn't like it, to me it felt cheap, which is why I went with the B&M. For the extra $70 it is worth the investment (plus it has a lifetime warranty!). I am all for saving $$ (which is why I didn't buy a Stillen) but the shifter takes some abuse, and it just wasn't worth cheapin' out on. I will have pics of it on my website by the end of the day...

I've only used the stock shifter & Pacesetter's so my experience with different shifters is pretty limited. What did you mean by "cheap"? Could you describe that in more detail? Thx.

It felt like a slightly better but shorter version of the stock stick. Anything that has to be "customized" by the installer is not going to be (in most cases from my experience) as good a fit as something designed for the particular application. The Pacesetter is an improvement over the stock, but the B&M is, in my opinion, significantly ahead of it. I just uploaded pics here. Check it out.

If you're a 1/4 mile racer or like refinement, I don't recommend either. I've had both and now I'm back to the cut stock shifter:

I heard that stillen is the one that is good to get. I don't know for sure, one of the representatives at stillen told me that these are good to get because they don't break as easily as others.
