I have a 96 gle and the abs light only lights up for about a second. By the time the car starts it's gone out. Normal ?

Nothing like the SRS light - it stays on for some time making sure you notice it. ( 7 sec acording to manuel )

Is it possible for a knock sensor to be out and no CEL ? My car has a real soft spot in second gear. Give it more gas and not alot happens unless you give it more and it shifts into first again (screaming race mode )

Not owning a Maxima, I think this is pretty normal. In all of the vehicles I've driven, the airbag light was the last one to go out. The rest just came on for a second or two
