I do believe it's required in WA. state. You can kinda hide it under the bumber area. That's what my bro did.

I don't know for sure but drive around and look at the other cars. Here in AL about half of cars have a front license but those are all decorative tags, not state one. They are not required here. Look and see what others have. If many dont have a tag then its probably not required.

I have seen lost of people here without there license plates on and some have the license plate on the dsh and some dont. So I have no idea if you can do it or not. Do you still leave yours off and just put in on the dash?

Personally I would like to relocate it below the bumper, in front of the lower opening, in order to get that clean bumper look. Would it cut down on the airflow to the radiator if this was done?

take it off all together

I hate seeing a really nice looking car, and then a ugly chunk of rectangle metal. It's illegal in Illinois, but I've never been stopped for it.

Going 5mph over the speed limit and doing california stops at stop signs is also illegal, but that doesn't seem to stop anyone. Especially since the maxima has a front end which really draws your eyes to; to have a license plate to top it off is just plain ugly.

I'm going back to my home town where my parents live this weekend and my cousins a cop so I might just give him a call and ask him. I might do it anyway but I would also like to know how much the tickets are incase I am one of the unlucky ones that gets busted to it.

I think I was once told by a cop that it's illegal to drive without the front plate in all 50 States. I have been driving for more than 10 years in California (different cars of course), all without the front plate. The ONLY time I got pulled over for it is when I was driving my gf's car. Ironic, eh? Anyway, I happened to have the plate in the trunk at that time and told the cop I can put it on within in 5 minutes. Yes, he let me do it on the spot and I got away with it.

In California it's NOT a moving viloation. You'd only get a correction ticket (same as if your tail light is broken or window tint too dark). The ticket is $15 unless the have changed it. Honestly, I have been pulled over for other reasons and the cop just never bothered me with the front plate. There were times when they walked to the front of the car wanting to write down my plate number. When they realized there isn't one, they just walked to the back of the car and never even bothered to do a thing.

I'm from WA... Max99 what area are you from...

I do believe like Jeff said, that you have to have it... I haven't had mine on and I've never gotten hassled for it. I think it's only the POS cars that get hassled for it, or the "ricers". I think as long as you don't appear as if you're the troublesome type, they won't bother with you.

Ahh f*#K it! i'm going to do it anyways. I dont care. I just went outside and saw the way it looks and I'm going leave it off. I'll just leave the license plate in the trunk for now.

I think

I think it is the law for all 50 states to have a front license plate, but honestly, have you ever read someone's front license plate???? If your looking in your rear view mirror to read em well you've got a whole new problem.

I think they made this the law because in cities you know how there's no parking x amount of feet from the curb, well sometimes people push it and just have the back of the car inches (or less) away from the car behind it, therefore an officer can't write a parking ticket for the car if they can't even read the license plate because they are parked so close to the car behind it. Although the car would then just get towed, so I dunno; Just a thought. They seem to just want an extra to be read in case the other one can't, probably why they allow them in the front of windshields. Still ugly though.

Here in WA, taking off license plate is illegal. And it's illegal to put license plate into dash board.
No one hardly get ticket for not having license plate, but you'll get pull over if the cop is in bad mood. uhh.
I took off my plate from bumper for 4 years. And I got pulled over once and got warning.
Even tho it's illegal, cops really don't care since lots of car took off their plate anyways.
If you wanna do it, just do it. If you even get pull over tell cop that you just had accident, or someone unscrew one of your bolt on plate. hehe. It works. at least my case it did. good luck.

I'll agree. It's illegal here in Washington although, I've had mine off for about a year or so, and no problems. I imagine that it's one of those things where if the cop it just pissed that they'll add it on. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Also I do have blue turn signals which are illegal and they don't seem to worry about that either. I don't think the ticket is all that big. I just keep my plate under my passenger seat. Maybe I'll keep the bracket down there also, just in case.

Well after hearing all these people that have there off and not really ever getting hassled for it, then I've made my decision to just keep mine off. If I get pulled over cause of it then I might think of putting it on.

That "front plates required in all 50 states" bit is untrue. Pennsylvania only issues one plate to drivers, and that is for the back of the car. The front stays au naturale.
