Auto Starter for Stick
Hey Fellas, i got a 95 maxima, with no power doors. I want to install power door locks along with an auto starter. problem is i have stick and i dont wanna mess the car up with an auto starter. Ive heard of auto starters for stick cuz my dads friend's ferarri has one... can anyone let me know if its good/bad for my car. which ones are good reliable door/starter kits. and how much it should cost so i dont get ripped. along with install... thanx alot.

The first thing I did when I bought my used 96 5-speed is install a Viper 550 remote start alarm, and I love it. I don't see how you can mess up the car unless you autostart it while it's in gear. From my knowledge the only difference between installing it in a 5-speed and an auto is that you have to disable the clutch when you start which is a plug behind the clutch pedal that takes two seconds to find and unplug.
Be advised, I believe that autostarters are illegal on cars with standard transmission. It's more dangerous because people tend to leave their cars in gear. Good luck.

Q: Autostart bad for your car?
A: NO
Autostart is not bad for the car at all. However autostarting it when it is in gear will cause it to go through the house, garage door, other parked cars, ect.....and if u think it is going to stall out, forget that idea.
I would not put an automatic start on a car with a manual transmission.
P.S. the ferrari is prolly a clutchless autostick. Dont quote me on that cause I dont own a ferrari.

I looked into the starter quite a bit with my old car (standard) there are several units that are designed for the manual trans.
Proper manual install includes a laser sensor mounted to shift lever to check it isn't in gear. I understand the procedure for setting the car is a pain.
-park car running( neutral + e-brake )
-activate system
-take out key and get out
-close door.
Then the system will lock the doors and turn off the motor.
Then the starting ability will be activated. I'd venture to say if you were to open the car for any reason it would cancell the start ability.
After all that and the extra charge for the required pieces i passed. Most of the time for me needing a remote start isn't something i plan in advance.
I have a 96 gle with the auto now so a remote start is a easy option for me BUT (there's always a but ) i have the alarm system too. I don't want to carry around a fistfull of remotes either.
As for the clutch pedal a relay would be required to make the car think the clutch is in to allow operation of the starter. Quite simple to to.

Anyone know a way of integrading the stock remote to supply a output to start a car starter (possible pulse from the panic button ? ) Please let me know.

stickmax: there is an electrical plug behind the clutch pedal similar to the ones behind your radio. when plugged, it acts as a safety device so that you have to have the clutch down when you start the vehicle. in case your vehicle is in gear you can start the car without flying away. this plug needs to be removed if you wish to install an autostarter so that you will not have to step on the clutch to start. this way you can start the car from across the street or up to 500 feet away for the viper 550.
