5 speed conversion

How may of you guys have actually performed the 5-speed conversion? How much did it end up costing you, how well does it work, and is it worth it? I'm seriously considering performing this conversion because I want to eventually boost my max and from what I'm hearing a manual tranny is a must. If anyone knows anyone who performed the conversion and knows some about it I would like to hear from you too. Thanks guys (and gals).

Re: 5 speed conversion

Well I just recently did mine, and boy what a big difference!! This is a must get! I had no idea that the auto-tranny robs so much power from the motor. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. I was able to get Tranny, Axels, Brake-Pedel Assembly, Clutch-Pedel Assembly, Clutch, Flywheel, Starter, Master-cylinder, Slave-cylinder, Shifter, Rods, and all misc wires and bolts for $950 shipped. I got lucky on car-part.com and found a junk-shop listed. The shop transplanted all parts from a hit maxima.
The only thing that I went out of my way to do, is get a Lightweight-Fly, ATC Clutch-Kit,B&M-shifter, and Quaife Differential.

It cost me a further $600 for installation, totaling $1550. The car drives like new. As for as doing the conversion, my friend is a auto mechanic and it took about 2.5 days to do. One thing I can say, it is a lot of work. Very frustrating, but it will pay off in the end.

Good luck.

My friend is a mechanic, he really likes project builds on cars. Fortunately for me, he wanted to tackle converting my car to 5speed. He gave me a break on labor costs, becuase for him it was a new challenge.
