My Max is Skid Happy

Does your Maxima tend to skid really easy when the road is wet. I know I don't have ABS but my car has been tending to skid too frequently for my liking. Even at moderate to slow stops it seems like it's on edge and sometimes skids. I have about 6k miles on my tires and the tread on them seem to be fine. I'm so nervous in wet weather now! It just doesn't seem like it should be breaking loose on me like that. Anyone experience the same. I've only had the car for about 8 months now so I think I'm pretty used to how it shood react.

Is the tire pressure correct? Is your alignment correct? Have you been putting tire shine on the tread again?

I'm running the set of Goodyear Eagle's that were new on the car when I got it. They are sitting on the factory SE 16's and I did check the tire pressure and everything was good. As far as alignment that may be off a bit since I drive in downtown Atl and potholes aren't always too friendly. Last time it was aligned was when I put the springs on.

As far as tire shine...I weekly apply a full coat on the "Entire" tire. You don't think that is my prob do you?

The OEM Eagle RS-As suck azz. They are probably the main problem.

Those goodyear eagle RS-As are CRAP! Get them off as soon as possible. That's what caused me my accident. They have the most absolutely horrible wet traction I have ever felt. But yea, if you really don't like it, I suggest getting new tires. Otherwise if you don't mind the skidding, don't mind me.

I hate skidding and these tires are going to get me into a wreck if it keeps raining so much around here. I really wanted to wait a little longer and possibly get new wheels and tires, but I may look into other options sooner. Thanks for the info!

Ok, I've looked into the Goodyear RS tire rating and yeah...they really aren't that good. I'm thinking about getting new rims and tires if I have to buy new tires but if not what do you guys recommend to put on my stock 16's.

What is the best size and a couple of popular better performing tires I can look into! I think it's rained every day but 2 or 3 so far this summer and I'm not feeling too comfortable on my Goodyear RS's.

Thanks

Are these the same OEM tires that came on the 1997 SE?

I just got Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s in the OEM size, 215/55-WR16.

They were $313 shipped from the tire rack. It's rained almost every day since I got them. They are great in the rain. Bridgestone RE950s are also very good in the rain.

you need to stop driving so aggressively...

i have goodyear rsa's...drive aggressively...and i don't skid
i have ABS, but its not activated the way a i brake...

i think you need to brake more smoothly, and ahead of time...not last minute

sure goodyears suck, but drive them like they suck...not as if they are amazing

What Dev said is true, but goodyears suck. tirerack.com does have nice deals, and they'll send the tires mounted and balanced on the rims for pretty cheep. not to mention the its prob the best web-site for shoppen tires n rims. Bridgestone Potenzas are decent in the rain, i had em on my prelude. I got Toyo Proxes on my Max, They did skid on me twice, but their great dry traction and burnout friendly (5spds are fun)

Also, tire gloss looks good, but is **** on the tire. Don't bother covering the enitire tire, Its prob the main reason you slide. I work at Delta Sonic I'v seen cars skid from tire gloss on "dry pavement" ( how dry is the pavement of a car wash? )

1. SLOW DOWN in the rain.
2. Get new tires. I suggest Dunlop SP Sport A2's, excellent tire. I also don't have ABS, and my tires don't lock up even under hard braking in the rain. They were also very good during the nasty winter we had this season in the northeast.

Good luck.

Maybe I should have been more clear when I posted. The reason I did is becasue my car was skidding when it really shouldn't (at slower stops!) Of course when driving really agressive and stopping at the last minute your going to have problems with traction and skidding. Thanks for the info on tires though...I'll have to look into the ratings and see what I want. I may get new wheels while I'm at it too!

Ohh and I was kidding about putting tire shine all over my tires...that would be just pain dumb.

The next ones Im getting are going to be Yoko AVS-dB on the stock 15's. I've heard real good things about them, but I really dont know how well they would work in the rain. I live in Az and see rain maybe 4 times a year.
