Hey everyone with 5spds...isn't 3rd gear the sh*t? Ever since I got my Max, I've always been amazed of the pull that 3rd has. Not that it doesn't pull hard in any other gear, it's just that 3rd from 4000 on (torque-peak) puts a smile on my face every time I'm just driving or leaving someone in the dust. The only reason I'm writing about this is cause I keep reading stuff like "After 3rd he was gone..." So if anyone feels me post a reply. Thanks

Can't feel ya on this one. It's 5th gear that amazes me. The fact that the car (loaded with people) can pull up hill past 130mph in 5th.

The reason why 3rd is weak for me is because I used to drive a Integra GSR. 1st and 2nd gear in that car were awful. 5th wasn't great either. But 3rd was a miracle. My friends and I called it, "The Annihalator Gear" I could pass Z28's, Mustang Cobras, etc. in third gear. They would smoke me in 1,2, and 5. 4th gear was pretty good as well, but the very end of 4th started to slow down.

BrianV, I agree with you on 5th gear, it provides sufficient pull past 120MPH, but you really don't think third is good? Don't you love nailing it in 3rd at about 55? But it's all good

3rd gear rocks! there is nothing better after a long day's work (14 hours, 12 work + 2 driving) than getting on the entrance ramp (uphill too) and going from 55 to 85mph in 3rd gear on the dallas tollway. few cars on the road, and lots of powerful, expensive cars to pass/race to the inside lane. woo hoo!

I was never too impressed with my 3rd gear (used to own a 94 Z28) until I added my Y-pipe and B-pipe. Now with a intake, y-pipe, and B-pipe, this sucker is flat out amazing on the highway for a NA V6 sedan. All my gears pull very hard and my trap speeds have been really good at the track. I'm not stupid enogh to say I beat Z28s and Cobras, but I do have enough power to play for fun.

TRUE DAT

The gear that gets me going has to be 2nd though, being at about 35 mph and dropping the accelerator to the floor and pulling all the way up to near 60 is a blast.

I definately agree on third gear
1st is quick 2nd doesnt seem that
quick but once i hit 3rd it takes
off like a *****... im
thinking maybe when we hit 3rd were
in like perfect spot of the torque curve
but another thing i love is pulling away from most ppl in 5th and not having to down shift

Yes, 3rd gear! Great gear to drop it into on the highway when you see a couple of punks in the rear view mirror driving a dropped NEON trying to pass you (happened just the other day).

BrianV,

im not trying to start flaming, but do you really belive you pulled on and beat Z28's, Cobra's, and others from juss your 3rd gear? I know your saying it pulls hard and stuff but it pulls THAT much?? im assuming your GS-R was mild modified...

ive beat some friends before and i let off and then they pass me,later we talk and their like "haha did you see me beat you on 3rd gear?!?!" I guess Turbo's have no high end or maybe its Nissan"

ive beat people from stoplights and let off then they say "dam you got a good launch but did you see me pull on you in 3rd!" I juss smile and move on cause itll become an arguement..

My teg was more than midly mod'd. I had some headwork (cams, mill'd, etc.)

Yeah I guess you have a point about the lettin off on third, but these are mainly freeway runs. So there isn't a 2nd or 3rd, I just hear the car goin. Also, I doubt it would be the case EVERY single time.

Also, when my Max was stock I raced this fool with a stock GSR. I killed him in 1st and 2nd, but somehow he managed to pass me at about 90, and I started catchin up again at 120, passed at 130, then I walked.

Them GSR's have sickly 3rd gears. When I drive my Max I love 1st, 2nd, and 5th, but I'll never forget 3rd and 4th in my teg, nor will my friends.

I'd have to say 2nd gear is my favorite, since I do mostly in-town driving. Great for going from 30-55 mph.
I'm also amazed at the torque we have in 5th gear when cruising on the highway at 70mph. Most of the time when I need to accelerate, there's no need to downshift.
