Polished valve cover questions

Hey everybody, I have read several posts on how to do this, in terms of sand papers and polish and everything. My question is, how many of you have done it with the valve cover still in the engine bay rather than taking it out? I plan to do it this way... I was just looking for some pointers from personal experience or otherwise. Thanks in advance.
