What octane do you run your maxima on?
I always get premium, but here its almost always 91 (or 93 if your lucky). But I live up in the Mountains so the car can run a lower octane and not be harmed. Thats why us CO, NM, NV, UT, WY (and any other high state) folk run a lower octane.
And as proof I just got 28mpg driving from Boulder to Steamboat Springs and back on 91. And I dont drive "conservatively."

Anybody know about the ingredients in the octane boosters at autoparts stores? Do they really increase octane? If so, how much do they relistically make, how bout HP. Dyno Charts would be raw.

Here in TN, we only have 87, 89, and 93.
With all the stop and go crap i do, i found that 93 gives me around 4 to 5 days extra over 89 when i comes to having to fill up again.

96-98, depending on which BP or Mobil I end up going to. The bigger stations usually have 98, whereas the smaller ones have 96. All have 91, but the car feels sluggish, and seems to have a lower fuel economy then it does with 96 or 98.
Sunoco Ultra 94
The next step down is 89 Octane at Sunoco here in Kitchener, Ontario.
I have used Pioneer Magnum 93... which is apparently Ultra 94 bought from Sunoco (but they are not allowed to market it as 94).

I live in Chicago. We have 87, 89, and 93 so I always get 93. Some shell stations around the chicagoland area carry close to 100 octane...would it be safe to get that? I mean, after all, the manual says that My 99 SE-L can receive anything from 91 to 103 I think...so what do u think?

Just paid $1.97/gal for Shell 93 in Wood Dale. Almost 30 bucks for a fillup
5% rebate! w00t!!!
I typically run 90 octane as there's a price bump for 92 or 93 in my region and I get no additional performance out of the higher octane, just wasting money. The gen 4 max has a compression ratio of 10:1, with aluminum heads and block, that dissipate detonation heat very effectively. When driving long distances,in mountain regions, with my Thule cargo box on top I run the highest octane gas that is available. The octane ratings for premium gas drops in high altitude regions (to around 89 maximum) ,as there is less available oxygen in the air, reducing combustion chamber volatility and less chance of detonation.
A question i've been wondering, is there a huge difference of getting 93 octane gas from Mobil then getting 93 octane from Joe's Gas station? Joe's is obviously cheaper, but the octane is the same. What's the difference, besides the name of course..
I try to only keep about 10 gallons of 94 in the tank, with a bottle of octane boost all the time. I get better milage and better pickup. I tried 91 a few months back, and my Max ran horrible, and I got almost 3 less MPG. It definitely makes a difference/
Odd, it seems you guys up there don't have any petrol/gas with an octane higher then 94? Mind you, we don't have any that goes lower then 91. Does anyone know if octane ratings are measured differently from Country to Country?

get a job n pay for the 91+ urself
showed him the manual, hes like "thats just a recomendation, im not paying for that" besides, i would pay for it, but its a looooot of money in california for 91 (2.49 by my house) and im jobless during the school year...they offered to pay
Premium is like 20 cents higher so if you put in 15 gallons, it's like 3 bucks more. You can't get 3 bucks for every 15 gallons???
My parents pay like $20-$25 each week for gas (I charge that much on the gas card they gave me) and then I fillup the rest with my allowance money. Last week I charged like $21 on the card and paid like $8 to fill up the rest of the tank. I need to cut down on unnecessary driving
But it's so hard
