What octane do you run your maxima on?
my parents let me use a gas card IF im using regular, my dad already said he wouldnt pay for premium at all. i dont have enough cash for a full tank of premium every week at california prices
What gas card you got? I got the Shell one and on the bill they send, all it says it like Shell gasoline 12323425323234 (transaction number) and the price. They don't go into details for me
The Mobil card doesn't go into details either. If you want, go look at your bill and see. You can spread out your gas fillup times so they won't know, but I don't know if you want to do that or not. Fillup when you're like at half a tank or something. The reason I'm doing this is that for me, its cheaper to run premium gas mileage wise, but my parents don't get it.
My parents think I use 87, but I pay a little more than extra for the premium since I drive around just for fun
Already put like 7k on the odo in like 4 months
Cutting down on driving now.

I'm not saying cut down on driving, instead of filling up every Friday, fill up on Friday and Tuesday or something
Or when you get near half a tank.I usually fillup every Saturday. I drop my mom off at work on Saturday and then fillup over there since it's like 15 cents cheaper over there.

Okay to settle this argument:
Oh-Fill-um Gas is the same as Exxon or Texaco or whatever. Sure, those gas stations don't have their own refineries for oil, so what do they do? They get surplus Exxon, surplus Texaco, surplus BP. ITS THE SAME GAS. They don't add water to it, about the only difference is the additives. If some exxon additive kicks your ride into overdrive and you prefer it, thats cool. otherwise, save yourself a few pennies and get brand z.
Thank you ECON 210...

the dude was telling me all this avilable octanes blah blah and i swear i even heard 125 octane. i asked about price and all i heard the following : "6.50 PER GALLON". thats when i grabbed another pair of legs and ran outta there.
Yeah, seriously. My '99 is just my daily driver. No sense in putting in such high octane for it. I have noticed an improvement in 89 octane vs. 87 as far as acceleration and mileage. But 90's?? It's just not worth it.

I'm not rich but I know what's best for the max by putting 93 in it all the time unlike my brother who uses some crappy 89 octane
for my brother using 89 in a max
for my brother trashing the max inside and leaving it dirty outside
for my brother neglecting the max maintenace-wise
91 octane = $1.93 in San Jose. Its $2.00+ up in San Francisco.
91 octane is the max we can get.
It is the most expensive premium gas in the country (aside from maybe Hawaii or Alaska) and virtually all other states have at least a 92 grade for premium.

Race gas at a 76? Never heard of that at a local gas station....I thought it was only at the track!

So do you think it hurts my engine to run 89 octane? I am in Ca and the highest is 91 anyway, but there don't seem to be a difference between 89 or 91 for me, I ve gotten my best mpg and miles per tank (469) with 89 I have a 96 SE 5 speed with no mods and 105K
i use 87, but that's just cause i'm selling it for a better max soon. but i'm curious as to how much faster my 0-60 would be might be if i were to use 93 or 94, keeping in mind i have like 195 km. so basically my question is, how much does octane help performance?
Well when I got the Max a month ago all my dad put in it was 87. So I put 87 for about a month. And today I ran the car all the way to empty and filled it up at the BP with 93. And all I have to say is WOW!!!!!
What a difference, so much smoother and the car runs up hills a lot easier. Doesn't need to downshift just keeps on pulling nicely up the steep *** hills in TN. 93 for now on!!

On 87 octane the engine develops less power and because of that your right foot compensates by opening the throttle more and burning more gas. You might as well just give the engine what it was designed for. When you do that you get more performance per gallon of gas and because the engine is running better you don't need to crack the throttle open as much and you get better mileage. The cost is about the same either way (cheaper 87 but more of it and crappy performance, or more expensive 91-93 but less of it and more performance) so you might as well just go with 91-93.
