Help! Transmission dead
It finally happened. I am at 85000 miles and it blew up. My question is where can I get a NEW one and how much will it cost. Also has anyone ever bought one rebuilt and if so how did it hold up.

Define 'blown up'? Maybe it's not as bad as you think. Maybe it's a clutch failure (5spd) or low fluid (auto).
"Blown up" doesn't give us anything to go on, especially wihtout year and tranny type.
Generally, a rebuilt tranny (auto or manual) will be up in the US$1500-2500 (depending on how much is broken inside!) range. A junkyard tranny will go for about $800-1000. R&R on a Maxima tranny is comparable to any FWD tranny - about 10-15hrs for a shadetree if you're working alone, but I recommend a buddy help you. That tranny is about 50Kg (5spd) or something like 75Kg (auto) so you will need an engine hoist or tranny jack. If you'[ve never done a tranny swap before then I'd shy away from the maxima - you have to be VERY metoiculous in labelling components as they are removed if you want them to go back perfectly.
Maybe you could take the junkyard tranny to a local tranny shop and have them swap out the external seals and install it. They can R&R a tranny in 3 hours with their experience and tools.
But FIRST - diagnose the tranny. It woudl suck to spend US$2k on a tranny when all your original tranny needed was a new clutch/fluid topoff)
