totalled the max (pics)

Even though I really dont know anyone here, I thought I would post pics of my car. A girl pulled out right in front of me leaving me no time to react. I hit her drivers side door, we were both taken to the hospital, she is fine, and im still a little messed up. The red stratus next to mine is the one I hit

The good news is i got to take the wheels off and put the steelies on and my friend is going to buy the car and part it out.

From what I have heard the other driver is just fine. She was issued a ticked on the scene for failure to yeild right of way, plus there were several witnesses saying that she pulled right out in front of me then stopped in my lane. All of the witnesses were EMTs. They were waiting outside a restaurant for a table.
i think im ok. I am in a lot of pain and I keep getting dizzy, but i think i will recover.

Well, really sorry to hear that you ARE seriously hurt! And it really is a shame about everything. Since the witnesses sided with you, and you reported injury, you are golden if something is wrong.

Sorry to hear about the ride, but I'm glad no one got killed. My ride was hit two weeks agoa and its still not fixed but the important part about accidents are the lives that make it out. Hope you recover.

Sue for what? PLease don't be a part of our rediculous "sue happy" legal system. Assuming she wasn't intentionally neglect and her insurance will cover everything, what are grounds of the law suit?

What a stupid thing to say. Don't sue. Why punish the woman even more? Unless you lose out on money that is directly related to the accident, just let it be.

thank god you both survived...but

but you call that a heavy wreck?

If you've seen my car, you'll have cried. That's nothing compared to what I did to my max.

From what I can tell, the car will run. It runs, doesn't it? I had much more damage on the front, windshield cracked, a/c condensor halved, etc etc and it was a 65 mph classic frontal collision. Airbag scratch on my head, passenger was fine.

And the better thing is...I revived the car. 6" of frame damage was...not that bad.

It's gonna cost around 3800-4000 for a complete resurrection of your max. I advise you, from my experience, sell it and get a newer one.

That hurts. Luckily maximas are fast, nice looking, roomy, and we often forget theyre very safe cars. This accident re-enforces a saying a friend once told me..."Women should not be allowed to drive, or be in possession of any car, no questions asked" (sorry girls, he said it, not me!) Glad to hear all are ok, and good luck with a replacement

my estimate from the shop I work at was $10k. Airbags alone will cosr $2k, so there is no way it can be fixed for $4k

Re: Re: thank god you both survived...but

try to find a mexican body shop. I spent $1100 on frame labor. ATL, GA.

bought about everything front (reinforcer, radiator mount, a/c condensor, grille, etc etc etc) from a local junk yard, $900.

bought both fenders and bumper from ebay dealer: $280 shipped.
bought air bag from junk yard in FL: $527 shipped
bought radiator from radiatorbarn.com $128 shipped
new 97-99 headlights and corner lamps: $195 shipped.

Still need paint job.

The breakdown of Basic revival cost:

junk parts: 1100
frame labor: 900
bumper/fenders: 280
radiator: 128
airbags: 527
a/c system: 30 (R134A recharge kit)
windshield: 190
headlights: 195

net total: 3350

This is why it's possible to revive the car from death. But I wouldn't recommend it b/c our car price is going down again. With about 5000, you can pick up a 97-98 next spring. So why bother fixing the car? I revived mine just b/c mine has 92K mi, and I know I can enjoy the fruits of more mileage in my max.

To say the car was totaled

is an understatement. It was beyond the point of being totalled. The initial body shop estimate was around at $9000, for a car only worth $6000 at most.

But the impossible must be done. So I did.

Any car that comes back from the very pits of fiery hell has that fiery touch left in it...and it cannot be beaten.

There is no way I would want that car back. It is going to be a parts car. And I cant wait till next spring to buy a 97-99. I am going to take what I can get from insurance, graduation is coming up, so I will get some $ there, and add on no more that $2k of my own monry and buy something. I have found a 99 I30 i really like, and am trying to go after that.

Whether or not you sue her depends on her insurance company. If the are fair then you won't need to. If they give you less than you car is worth, or refuse to conver your other losses (cost of rental/taxis etc) then you have a right to try t collect that money.

Also, it depends on her coverage. Like here in Ohio, she could have only State Minimum $7500 in liability coverage, and if she macked my maxima the day I paid $16k for it then I would only get $7500 and be out 8000. If I had liability only myself then I would be force to sue her for the difference.

Might be off topic but some of the worst situations I've been in involved woman drivers. I think insurance for woman should be higher then for men. I also hate the way woman park. By luck I saw this young female around 18 years old parking this SUV and I think I would have done very bad things to her if I didn't calm myself down and return to reality after seeing her bumper go on top of mine. Even on TLC they said females have a bad sense of space. I'm sure the ones who have been driving for a long time are descent but on the big scale its horrible. This doesn't mean men are good drivers and anyone from ny would know that most of the drivers do not respect eachother and have bad road rage.
