Well, put it like this, a turbo eclipse is faster than the 3000gt SL. The thing weighs a whole lot. I've never raced one b4, but I'm gonna go ahead and say, yeah, you can beat em. Let us know the outcome.

vr4 or no vr4 (although a very large difference) those things move. They are made for speed, while maximas, families. Although for this particular case I would say whoever gets the jump will win. Either way you probably won't be able to see each other because you'll be in each other's blind spots, noone will get smoked in this race.

The vr4 weighs 4000lbs.Droping the clutch at 6500rpms will get you 4.8 0-60 time, but your car would not last long doing this.A normal launch will get around 5.7 0-60.On the other hand the 218hp front drive SL tipping the scales at almost 3700lbs will get ravaged by a 5speed max.If you dont believe this look the times up for a SL in motortrend?

I almost forgot there are 3 engines offered .The vr4 320hp,sl 218hp,and 160hp for base 3000gt and that's the slowest one,a max will walk away.

I was disappointed...

...when I drove my brother-in-laws 3000GT SL. It was an auto which may attribute to some of it, but I thought it was a dog. I put it in sport mode and punched it one night and my buddy and I just looked at each other with a "That's it!?!?" look on our face. He smoked later that week by an Eclipse GS-X 5-speed. He was pissed!

The VR4 weighs slightly less than 3800 lbs, the non-turbos weigh about 3400 lbs. The non-turbo has about the same power to weight ratio as a Maxima, so it would probably be a very close race. Most mildly modded 3000GT SL 5 speeds run low 15s, high 14s, about the same as the Maxima.

Don't sweat it. That's a VR4. Two works for you Twin Turbo. Two more words for you RAISED BOOST.

Remember in Gran Turismo the GTO could bust like 900+ HP. Although that's fictional, it's very easy to pump 500-600 out that motor. The Non-turbo can not do that. Might as well consider those two different cars.

Depends what base 3000Gt he has

If it's a pre-'97, it'll have the 222hp engine, '97-on base models got the 168hp one.

But it is a heavy car, built more more overall performance and comfort, a Grand Tourer.

man that is one fast GTO. the only thing i can think of for that gto to beat a viper is 1) that bad boy has more horsepower than the viper does; 2) the viper could have gotten a bad start. the gto has all wheel drive so naturally it will pull off the line first but, i still cant believe that. also how old do you think that kid is who is driving the GTO....sounds like he is young. lucky bastard.

Maxima hands down....

my friend has a 99 3000gt sl and it is as slow as a civic, maybe slower. the first time i saw him with it, i was like o shiet... what a sports car. sat down in it..started feelin really cool that i was gonna drive sprts car. started the engine, thougt it would be louder...floored it, still flooring it, am i flooring it? anyways, there is no comarison but the 3000gt i drove wa an automatic and like ZTYMax said, the pre 97 have 222 horsepower and the one i drove was a 99 and automatic (all for show). so hope that helps, im sure you should be able to take him fairly easy.

4gen. 5-spd v.s. 3000 non-turbo

Well, I know mine would b/c it has already on the road.
I have the full gamut of power upgrades except the ECU upgrade from JWT.(coming soon) What do you have? I also have a Centerforce II clutch. What shape's your clutch in? Will it hold under several runs?

I ran a stock SL with the 3 liter 222 hp engine at the track down here in Florida in my 5th gen (stock also). Both were 5spds.

I had bad launch. We both ran 15.185. Don't remember the trap speeds but neither of us was pulling the other at the end. Not particularly good run for me - but I still edged him out. He ran a couple more times against others. All were right around 15.15 - 15.25.

If he has the 3 liter, it will all depend on the driver. Whoever lauches better will win.
