Cold Air Induction

I installed a K&N Cold Air Induction kit today, Now my SES light is on I've tried disconnecting the battery but that does clear the light. I'm curios if it may have something to do with the 2 sensors that are on the old air intake that was attached by the radiator...another possibility was when I started the car for the first time after the installation..the mass airflow sensor wasn't plugged in...but the light hasn't cleared since plugging it back. I would appreciate any suggestions...Thanks

I made that same mistake years ago when I had my other 95 Maxima. I installed a conical filter w/ MAF adapter and forgot to reconnect that MAF sensor. I tried restarting several times before I realized that it was disconnected. As a result, the CEL kept coming on even after resetting the ECU everytime. Also, eventually the car would have a hard time starting. I took it to the dealer to get it diagnosed and everytime I did they couldn't duplicate the issue. I was never able to get it fixed til the time I sold that car. I won't make the same mistake again though. BTW, when you installed the CAI kit, did you disconnect the battery? It's a good practice to do so because this resets the ECU so that it'll quickly start adjusting to the CAI.

Good luck!

It's because your MAF sensor was not connected. Reset your ECU with the link provided in the above post. Also if you try and use the "disconnect the battery method", you must leave it disconnected for many hours. At least overnight.

Thank you very much for the help. I got the code and kinda figured it was Mass Air Flow Sensor giving a bad reading. I also got the check engine light cleared thanks to you.

Got another issue though....Now my car knocks pretty bad at full throttle as if it is getting too much air. Running too lean. I have tried some cheap stuff so far, such as, octane booster to a half tank of regular and filled it up with premium gas. That has helped some, but it still knocks at full throttle. If you have any advice on what I could try to get rid of the knock, starting with cheap things preferably. Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

No other modifications have been done besides the Cold Air kit. Original Mass Air Flow sensor too.
