idle speed control

I'm trowing 2 codes, knock sensor and idle speed control...what is that? I adjusted my throttle cable bout a week ago, but my code has been thrown for a long time now, so i don't know which one was first. I have no clue what the idle speed control is, but the knock sensor I can take care of.

Thanks, Chris 'Maxtank'

Same codes.....

I've been getting the same exact codes (0205 Idle speed control, and 0304 KS) for over a year now on my 95 SE. Can anyone help?? How do you diagnose a faulty Idle air control valve (IACV)? Are these expensive to replace? Where is it mounted on the engine? I've heard it is mounted near the Throttle Body, but I can't find it. Could this be the source of an inconsistent and low idle? Thanks.

My car has been runnin funny for awhile also. Finally got the KS code but not sure if I have the IAC code yet. I am almost 100% sure my IAC is junk tho. As for replacing, KS's cost upwards of $120 from the dealer and the IAC is about the same if not more. I priced them out and am waitin for my next paycheck (get the rest of my SC parts as well with it).

Your IAC def could be the source of your idle problems, like me. When facing the TB, look back and to the right of it. It should have a hose on top and about three plugs in it. There is also a black plastic screw on top. As for adjustin the idle, you don't just turn the screw. You have to disconnect the TPS to do so but I can't remember where the instructions are. I am lucky tho cause of my other job at the Nissan dealer. I can just use the consultant computer to take care of disconecting the right sensors so I can turn the screw and get the correct idle speed. Any questions, just let me know.

Have you guys taken out your IACV and checked it? Try cleaning it with some TB cleaner. When I took mine out, it was really dirty, all black. WHen I cleaned it I could feel teh differemce, i was hesitating at idle and sometimes the car even turned off on me, hasnt happened since.

Yeah. After my MEVI install, I cleaned mine (good 7-8 months ago) then shortly noticed my idle starting to act up afterwards. I then got another IAC from a beat 95 junker MAX, cleaned it and put it in, and it began acting up also. All my symptoms seem very remanicent of a bad IAC again so I believe I just had the good fortune of pickin a crap IAC from the junkyard. We'll find out soon enough. Good idea tho D1.

Wow, you're right, either you have bad luck...or somethign is wrong that could be making your IACV go bad. Hope you find the problem
