Your battery might also be too weak to start the car. How long has it been sitting? Did you leave any dome lights on or anything of such kind?

that ticking noise means one of two things:
1) your battery isn't strong enough to crank the starter.
2) your starter is bad.

first thing to do is to try "jumping" your car with cables...
if the extra power won't start the car, your starter is probably
toast.

good luck!

i have already tried to jump start the car, but it would still do the same thing.... i guess is my starter...i guess the clutch being dead has nothing to do with it right? and i also tried to reset my computer, and by accident i pass the stop limit so i forced it.. may be that has something to do with .. thank you for all the info

If your battery has developed a bad cell, you'll never be able to start it on a jump. Take the battery out and go and have it checked to see if it is ok before you do anything. My alternator died a couple of weeks ago and it killed the battery. Make sure your alternator is working well also!

My dad's Accord wouldn't start so he towed it to his mechanic and he got the starter replaced, then it died again so he towed it back there again and he said the ground wire was bad. After he fixed that, the car is running again... He had the clicking noise and it wouldn't jump start either =P

A lil bit ago i tried hitting the starter before i did that i tried to turn the car on and it seems like it would turn on very like half a second and then turns back off and makes the weird sound hhhrrrrggg like trying to turn back on, it wont, i just changed the battery like 2 or no more 3 months ago and they aslo check the starter and altenator when i changed it... when i took the intake apart i realized that the tick tick tick is been made the thing right next to the thing where you would push to make you engine sound... (i think that sometimes must of broken when i force the competer trying to reset it.. i pass the do not pass the stop limit.. or more ideas would be great.. thank you for you time

the part the is making the noise(tick tick tick) is the trottle body or something like that...my mechanic told me that it might not be the starter and it might be the computer.. how can i be sure what i need to buy??? please any ideas ??

you could swap computers with someone else's Maxima...plug and play!
...I'm not sure if the throttle body can make ticking noises???

I would *maybe* ask another mechanic to check it out...

they're not cheap...try a scrap yard, or, kindly ask
a fellow member who was close by to swap for a minute.

Re: Car Wont Start :(

ok I've had this problem also.

put your key, turn it 1/2 way (that is, don't fire up your engine) and try headlights.

If headlights work, battery is good.

I suspect you have a negative ground wire that is bust/not making contact/broke in the middle.

This has been a known problem in our maxima. For one, I had to pay $250 to learn the lesson.

It's where the thick wire cables do a 90 degree bend near the starter and engine block. Check the wiring first.

BTW, starters don't go die on you unless you try to crank it 30 times within 30 minutes.

I'm pretty sure the wire is fine... it was working before and nobody mess with it, but the thing that i did mess with was the computer, i did something i was not suppose to do and i think i broke it, but i can't find anyone with another computer.. i did what you told me to do about the headlight and the battery is good... thanx for your help and time i really greatful
