Questions from a newbie
Just switched from a 94 Integra GSR to 95 MAX-SE. What a difference! Don't get me wrong, integras are nice cars but the Maxima just feels more mature. Here are some questions,
1)My front two tires need replacement. Now I am broke and want a cheap, quiet tire which will last for more than 40k(performance and grips is a lower priority). What are your suggestions?
2)My MAX is 5spd, I used to shift between 4-5k rpm in my Integra b/c of low torque. Now what do you guys usually shift(normal acceleration and spirited driving)? What's the most fuel effecient way to shift it?
Thanks in advance. I am so excited about the Maxima and I'll post pictures later.

A damn good performing tire that is as cheap as those Kelly POSs that tire stores will stick you with is the Sumitomo HTR 200. Only $46 in 95SE stock size 215/60/15 on http://www.tirerack.com
Absoultely great performing tire.

Nismos14,
Would shifting at 4-6.5k rpm more than a few times a day do any harm to the engine. I know Honda engines love to be revved but not sure about Nissan.

Welcome aboard!!
On my 98 max SE, I have driven the Dunlop D60 A2 in 215/55/16 and now have the Bridgestone RE950 in 225/50/16. Very different!! The Dunlop had great ride quality and excellent wet and snow traction. However, they only lasted about 20k miles (could have been my heavy right foot
They were quiet and wore evenly. Good turn-in, decent handling, soft ride.
The Potenzas are a little noisier, have *very* sharp turn-in and ride a bit rougher than the Dunlops -- However, don't be quick to judge because the re950's are a 50 aspect ratio where the Dunlops were 55's and I would expect those characteristics form a shorter sidewall.
Whatever your choice, the important thing will be to match the characteristics of what you buy to your driving needs. Go to www.tirerack.com for extensive reviews and advice...

You made a good choice. Im buying kumho ecsta supra 712s for my 97 SE, they have a good tire for the money. The ecsta is a summer tire though and no doubt sucks in snow...so if youre gonna do snow too, get some potenza's or somethin
dunlop sp a2's for all season and they are pretty cheap if your still on stock 15's or 16's..
i alwasy shift at 2.5-3k for normal drving in 1st and 2nd . 3rd and forth around 2.5... when i wanns pass people i usualy shift at 5- 5.5 thats where we make peak power.. on the rare racing occasions i shift at around 6.2-.3.. i dont like the red at redline. makes me scared... so i stay away from full redline shifting. my average milage for every 15 gallons is 330. i fill at 1/8 tank left. i heard goign to close to empty works your fuel pump harder. the vq can take a beating so dotn woree about that.
