hard to get into and out of 3rd and 4th gear...help needed.

this happend in the middle of 1000 mile road tirp yesterday. After stoping at a rest area and comming back on to the interstate I noticed that going ino 3rd felt really odd. Almost like my tranny was resisting it. 4th gear was doing the same thing. The resistance feeling is through out the throw from 3rd to 4th. 1st, 2nd and 5th gears are fine.

It's hard to describe what it feels like, but a "resistance" or very "unsmooth" or "unlubritcated" is the best I can do.

The clutch is not slipping and everything is fine once it's in gear. I am a little worried since I am a long way from home and still have to make the 1000 mile journy back next week.

I have been searched old posts most of the morning and found others that had similar problems but never found any accurate diagnosis.

This afternoon I drained and refilled the MT fluid and it did not help.

any ideas???

I have been experiencing this problem as well. How is your return spring on the shifting rods?

Return spring, as in the spring that keeps the shifter centerd?

Not well versed in the 4th gen tranny, but seems I soon may be...

What caused it? Were you shifting hard before it happend? Maybe it could be linkage of some sort? Do you have a STS? Just trying to get some general ideas...

Not shifting at all. I was on the interstate in 5th gear for 3 hours before it happend. No STS.

My MT fluid was almost 1/2qt low when i checked it. Although I did not think that was low enough to cause a problem, maybe the high speeds(80-90mph) for long periods of time created too much heat
