Front Strut Bearing DIY or Not?

Where can I get spring compressors in my area? Meaning, could I get them at a store like advance auto, napa, etc.?
I'm trying to decide if its worth doing myself. I know that using spring compressors is potentially fatal. So, I'm trying to weigh out the saving money vs death thing. To those who have had it done, how much does it cost?

I recently helped a friend install springs/struts on his Accord. We bought the cheap compressors from Advance Auto, I believe they were about $25. They are extremely sturdy. Yes, it's a dangerous job, but I would say no more dangerous than crawling under your car when it's on jackstands. Just work slowly and make sure they stay on opposite sides of the spring.

We had problems with them sliding around when one side would get compressed more than the other. The solution? Duct tape it to the spring.

And if you have air tools available, it will save you much time and soreness in getting them compressed.

just regular springs? I just did mine last weekend. If OEM springs they are under some intense pressure.

If you rent from AutoZone, the spring compressors are "free." What happens is you put a $40 deposit down, and when you bring them back, they give you your money back. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me...

I did a lot of reading up on what components to replace with my new suspension install. I also asked questions. One of the things that a lot of people told me and that I read about was to stay away from the KYB strut mounts and bearings, they are well known for creating noisy suspensions. People could not figure out the source of the noise, and once they did, they bought OEM stuff and the noise went away. Try to stick with as much OEM stuff as possible, people have used the KYB bumpstops with no problems though. I used all OEM components and have a quiet and smooth suspension.
