Custom made y-pipe

I am going to be constructing a custom y-pipe with the help of a local exhaust shop. I have a 2000cc engine and from what I'm reading online, I should use no bigger than 2.25" pipes for that cc rating.
I'm not sure how that stillen or other y-pipes are constructed. Are the pipes coming off the manifold narrower than the flex joint and those leaving the flex joint??

Here's what I'm thinking...the exhaust stream leaving each side of the V would have lower volume than the combined stream at the flex joint. Therefore to keep the stream velocity up before the flex joint a narrower pipe should be used. In my case I am thinking about using 2" pipes before the flex and 2.25" flex. What do you all think?? 2.5" all the way or 2"->2.25 or 2"->2.5" or 2.25"->2.5"

Ah, 2000cc engine? Which V6 has only 2000cc? Any why are you going to custom make a Y? It will cost more to do that vs buying a quality premade product from Budget, Cattman, Warpspeed, etc........

I live in the Caribbean and the car is a Japan import. The import taxes on the 2000cc are about 1US per cc and on the 3000cc the taxes are about 5US per cc so you can see why I have a 2000cc. Our damn government does that separate the rich from the poor .

We actually have two cars an SE and GXE....oh and they're not called Maxima in Japan but Cefiro.
I think the SE has the transmission where the gears change fast and hard and the GXE is smooth. Right now I'm modifing the GXE since its a 97 and the SE is a 95. I think I will probably swap transmission later on.

The custom build y-pipe is costing me about $85-$90US

Well I'm gonna experiment and use 2" before and 2.25" for the flex. According to my theory that should give me a higher low end torque than using 2.25" or 2.5" throughout. Too bad I won't be able to dyno test it. By the way, how much does it cost to dyno test in the US??

I've paid like 65 dollars for quite a few runs at a local dyno place here in Massachusetts...

How much different is the Cefiro vs. the American version of the Maxima?

I'll get my cousin's digital camera borrowed tomorrow and post up some pics...the intake manifold is alot different...not sure if better or worst. I think the Cefiro looks better because of the differences in the bumpers but that's just my opinion. The Maxima's bumpers are more rounded I believe.
It also comes with the automatic mode switch as a standard feature ...cattman has that upgrade for like $470USThe switch has 3 modes...Power,Snow and default. Power is cool!!! When it is set to Power and you accelerate hard the rpm goes redline before changing the gear...kinda like driving manual In Snow mode the car never uses first gear.
These are some pics that I found online :

wait... if it's a 2.0 the is it a sr20de? Aren't the Samsung "Maximas" in 2.0 also?

If they have those intake manifolds then I guess we shall soon have "CVI" at lower price?

HEY!!! That's the first pic I've seen online with a manifold like mine. Does anyone know if it is better or worst?

Thanks. I only hope I'm not making a mistake by going with the 2"->2.25" after reading..

I just don't want to loose low end torque. What I would like to know is if those Civics that get the 2.5 pipes actually know why they put it or if they just put it because they heard bigger is better. They do own Civics after all

wait... if it's a 2.0 the is it a sr20de?.....
The engine is a VQ20.

Ummmm what does Mevi stand for??....Is it the intake manifold from the middle east that I have been reading about? Variable intake or something?

It would actually make more sense getting a dealer in Japan since here in Trinidad most foreign used vehicles are imported from there. You may however find dealers in Trinidad but then they would have a mark up on the price. I'm not sure if they have started bringing in engines as yet...but most likely.

We have e-mail contact with a guy in Japan who bids on the car in auctions but I don't think he deals in parts...just whole cars
