ECU Self Check - Different on 99 Maxima?
I am trying to diagnose why my check engine light came on. I tried to follow the instructions at http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html, but my ECU seems to be different than described in the procedure.
On my unit, the label indicates that there is an idle adjustment and a self check. Does anyone know where I can find instructions for running the self check for this unit?
Thanks

I have the same ecu as you on our 99 maxima. The procedure is the same for checking the codes, however the ecu is slightly different. Remove the sticker that says idle adjustment, why Nissan put this on there who knows.
The screw is different, its a very small white plastic screw located downward and to the left of the hole. You'll need a small phillips head screwdriver, the type for eyeglasses to turn it. Be carefull turning the screw as it is delicate, don't use much force at all. Just follow the turning instructions and you'll be able to get the codes. To see the screw I depress the accelerator and shine a flashlight in the opening. It can be tough to get at, but just keep trying. Good Luck
