Oil Leak, Need Opinions

I was accelerating onto the highway last night and I heard a pop. It almost felt like I had ran over something, but the car began to smoke. I drove about another quarter mile until there was a safe spot to pull over. I looked under the car and there was a 1 x 2 foot pool of oil underneath the car. The drain plug and the oil filter were tight. There was no oil on the dipstick when I checked the oil. I poured a bottle of oil in to locate the leak. It seams that the leak is coming from the back of the oil pan behind and up from the drain plug. I looked in my Haynes manual and it says you need to have a hoist for the engine to remove/reseal the oil pan. I'm wondering if I should just have it towed to a shop cause I don't feel like doing such involved work on the side of the freeway. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry, I don't have info on this.
I'm guessing the shop would be a good idea at this point, let them give you an estimate/quote, and then decide if you want to do it yourself.

I looked at your profile, you say you are a 'junglist'... as an occupation?
I'm currious if you actually do tours and stuff? Can someone make a living off of it?

thanks,
dave h.

well right above the drain plug is the oil pressure sender switch, I know maximas have a problem with the front cover leaking but that wouldnt make your oil leak at that rate... goodluck

Yeah I do a fair amount of touring in the South East US (FL, GA, NC, TN, AL) under another alias. It doesn't pay all my bills. I'm an office manager by day. I see you're from Hamilton. I was born in Toronto, but I've lived in Brampton and Hamilton. How's the scene up there? Strong I hear.
