Q's about hood scoops
Seems like several .org members have been rolling around the idea of making a hood scoop for a custom intake on our 4th gens. Apart from having the scoop low on hood for better collection, how would a scoop be made to combat water being introduced into the intake. It seems that if the car is sucking in that much air, rain and water would naturally find its way in also. For a non-rain example, some owners may use automated car washes which blast your car from every angle w/ soap and water. OEM scoops on other vehicles must overcome this somehow. Any ideas?

That does'nt sound right. He's talking hood scoop not CAI. If there is a by pass for a hood scoop please elaborate. Cause it sounds dumb. To actually provide good advice check some WRX forums. Although the scoop is for the intercooler they might have some insight.

I've had my scoop on for about 6 months and never had any problems. I went a bit on the safe side and made a heat shield between the intake and the block to make the air a bit cooler (also serves to keep water our of the main engine compartment.
The scoop is offset so it sits directly over where the intake filter is (directly in front of the driver)
Relocated battery, insulated wires and grounds, so no real electrical worries. I am fab'ing a protective box for the fuses and links... mainly for show, but it wouldn't hurt to have an extra layer.
I really have no idea why you'd need a bypass valve... if youre in that much water, you're screwed.

I think a scoop would be great!!!
I've noticed that my Frankencar sits EXACTLY where the inside hood
cover is cut-out...could cut a hole in the hood and install a scoop.
for rain, i was thinking about a 0.5cm lip on the bottom of the scoop
to push water to the sides...little louvres on the scoop could be used
to reduce the possibility of water seepage during a heavy downpour
(or car wash).
anyway, my $0.02,

Correct me if Im wrong, but that's how it sounded to me.

Bypass valves only work when the vacuum is too great because the filter is submerged in water. For a hood scoop the water would mix with the air and be ingested into the engine causing damage. Legitimate problem? Yes. Get a bypass valve. Legitimate answer? NO.
